ReMark Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Katie: Welcome to CADTutor's Homework Helpers Hotline where the student provides the answers. The first question seems to imply that you were exposed to 3D primitives. Correct? Therefore.... Can you name an object that is spherical (clue: basket....)? If you take that object and cut a section through it's center (top to bottom as it is facing you) what "shape" do you see (clue: not a square but a _ _ _ _ _ _)? Now, take just one half of that shape (let's say the left half) and then draw a line between the two endpoints. Does it look like this (|? It better. What command can be used to join the two lines? (clue: P _ _ _ _) What 3D command can be used to "spin" this shape? (clue: _ _ _ _ _ _ _) What is the end result? Quote

mugshot Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 all questions are so easy yet we find it hard, because, we sometimes are lazy to look for it and try for others to seek... it is very hard to wake up the people who are already awaken. Quote
ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Basketball. Circle. Looks like a ball cut in half. Pedit. Revolve. End result: a sphere. Quote
ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 ...we sometimes are lazy to look for it and try for others to seek... I agree. Why crack a book open, or look over one's notes (if any were even taken), or do a thorough Internet search when instead we can come to this forum, or any other AutoCAD forum, and have someone else provide us with the answer. Then we have more time to IM with our friends, go shopping, or just hang out and have a beer. Quote

I know you were trying to lead into the answer, not just give it.8)8) Quote

ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Geoffers: Sometimes we make things too easy. If only they would tax their brains a bit more. The students aren't stupid (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here) but some of them are just lazy. So lazy in fact they can't even conduct a thorough search of the Internet for the answer. I would like to take away their computers for a week and make them visit a local library. I'm pretty sure many of them haven't visited one in quite some time (if ever). Quote
skipsophrenic Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 ReMark, Wish there were a few more tutors with your philosophy about, "You want to know the answer? Well heres a starting point." Quote
ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Thank you skipso. There are others who probably think I'm too hard on the students. If I sense that the person is truely in over their head I'll jump right in with an answer. But sometimes it seems they aren't even making a token effort. That riles me to no end. Quote
ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 With all due respect to The Matrix: Student: What is the Answer? ReMark: The answer is out there, Student, and it's looking for you, and it will find you if you want it to. Quote
nocturne00 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 My Life's Motto... Pushes me evertime im at a corner "The height by great men reached and kept, were not attained by sudden Flight, But they while their companions slept, were toiling upwards into the night". I know this has nothing to do with the question but I felt I just had to say it here. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 No probs ReMark, I haven't been out of college that long (1 1/2 - yrs) I prefer the way i was taught - Pushing you just over what you know, forcing the brain to work - that way whe the answer is gained - it's Remembered. So no you're not too hard on the students - i'd say Strict but Fair. Quote
ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Thanks noctune00 and skipso. Both replies appreciated and 100% in total agreement with. Quote
