Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I am working on a drawing for my bathroom and thought I would give 3D a try. While I had fun playing around with it I cannot get the drawing back to 2D. The cross hairs are red, green, red, and blue with the display in grey (I always use black for the display but cannot get it back to black). I did the whole drawing in model space, I guess this is way you guys place each part of a drawing in a view port in paper space? I have spent the whole day on my project and would hate to junk it. Is there any way of get the whole drawing back to my comfort zone of 2D? I deleted everything I did in 3D and did not copy any part. I know it is late so I would not expect a reply anytime soon. Thanks Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 So sorry to hear that you deleted the 3D. No need to have done that. If you open your VIEWS toolbar and select TOP it would have taken you back to your PLAN view, as seen in a 2D perspective, without the loss od the modeling which yo had done in 3D. Do you have a >BAK file of the drawing perhaps ? If so you should open that one, and see if you 3D is still intact there. Do you have AUTOSAVE turned on? If so do you know where your AUTOSAVE function saves drawings? Do not save your drawing again right now, as it risks deleting the previous .BAK file which may be the one you want to use to get your 3D work back. Cadtutor, the forum that never sleeps, it is coming up noon in Indonesia, and I am happy to help you right now, if you need help. Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Thanks for the speedy reply. I went to 3D nav and selected top and yes it went back to the 2D plan. Sorry all of the 3D has been deleted. However the drawing is still in 3D because the cross hairs are still red, green, and blue. How do I get the whole thing back to 2D? Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 The fact that the crosshairs are tricolored only indicates that you are in a 3D visualstyle or that you have your crosshairs set to display that way (which clearly is not how you have them set). How did you get to 3D navigation, with the viewcube? Do this, type VIEW at your commandline, then select TOP from the preset views offered. What visualstyle are you using? Try using 2D Wireframe visualstyle. Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Chect to see if your AUTOSAVE is turned on, and if so, the location of your AUTOSAVE file folder, as displayed in the two images. Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 I got to 3D nav by right click on one of the tool bars (I'm in Auto CAD classic). I typed in view in the command line but it seems the drawing is still in 3Dhere is a pic of the X,Y,Z coordinates Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 here is the display settingsI tried selecting 2D model space but it defaults back to the 3D Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 After you type in VIEW the view manger dialog box will open, wherein you will want to select TOP, SET CURRENT and lastly OK. Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Yes I do have autosave on and it is set for every 10 min like your pic Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I don't see any need for you to be adjusting your drawing window color schemes right now. This is not the problem. Please read and follow my previous posts. Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Do you know where the AUTOSAVE files are stored? If not go to OPTIONS, and on the FILE tab, as shown in post #5 you can check to see where they are stored. Go to the AUTOSAVE file, once you know where it is, and check for a .BAK file with the same drawing name as the one you are hoping to restore. Should you find it, right click on it and RENAME it. What you want to do is change the file extension to .dwg , then open it and see if your 3D modeling work is still in that file. Good luck, hope you get lucky. Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 went to view, selected set current, ok. Still get the tricolor corr Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Are you in PERSPECTIVE or PARALLEL view? Enter ORBIT at the commandline, then right click, and if you find that PERSPECTIVE is checked, check PARALLEL instead, then ESC. Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Wait a minute, this is a drawing of your bathroom? I'm guessing there is no reason you can't post it? Security clearance issues? You're bathroom isn't in the west wing of the white house? I will happily check it right out for you, and we can put this issue to bed. Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Thanks for your help. I went to options and found the autosave but it says that it is in a temp file which I can not find. I've been saving the drawing on the desktop and it is labeled bathroom.bak. I open it through autocad. Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Sorry I had to log back in and did not see your white house post. made me LOL. I'll see if I can figure out how to upload the dwg Quote
Marktuc Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 OK, how do I upload/post an Auto CAD dwg? Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 REPLY > GO ADVANCED > MANAGE ATTACHMENTS > BROWSE > UPLOAD > CLOSE THIS WINDOW > SUBMIT REPLY Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Personally I like to specify another less transient location for my AUTOSAVE folder, although that is the default. Quote
Dadgad Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 For the time being forget about autosave. Change the file extension of the .BAK file on your desktop, as previously described to .dwg, then open it. Quote
