Dadgad Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 There is a very precise technical term which accurately describes the position into which you have unfortunately gotten yourself, but I can't share it with you as the moderators on the site would not take kindly to its use here on the forum. Terms like this are best used under one's breath, far from civilized folks. Do you remember how many elements, digits or letters the password has? Capitalization of any or all parts, use of symbols? Did the risk of someone else being able to open this drawing outweigh the risk of your not being able to open it? If the answer to that question is no, then I would suggest that you immediately stop password protecting your drawings, or at the very least use the same password for all of them, and obviously it is always a good idea to make your password one which is hard to guess, but easy for YOU to remember. If I were you I would try a few more times to remember it, and run a few permutations of what you think it might be. If that doesn't work then you will need to get busy recreating the very safe drawings which you have now lost. But rest assured, it is very unlikely that anyone else will be able to crack the password either, without a lot of hacker software. Perhaps you can get these individual blocks back from other NON-protected drawings? Good luck. Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Be careful what you wish for. You wanted to be able to lock a drawing which you were able to do. Now you can't unlock simply because you forgot the password. You just learned an important albeit painful lesson. If you are going to password protect drawings, in the future, you might want to consider how you are going to track and remember passwords. As far as I know there is no way to brute force unlock the drawing. Either you know the password or you don't. Quote
Ollie8974 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Dadgad, Are You refering to the phrase Up a well known tributary without a meadns of locomotion. Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Well he ain't talking about "Up On Cripple Creek". Quote
Mefloump Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 When you created the original drawing the software makes a temp file. Have you tried renaming the temp file with the dwg file extension to see if it will open without the password? Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 What "temp" file are you referring to? What would the file type be? Quote
Mefloump Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I guess I was refering to the .bak but i didn't realize that an encrypted drawing doesn't have one. Quote
Dadgad Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Dadgad,Are You refering to the phrase Up a well known tributary without a meadns of locomotion. The broadly applied technical term I was thinking of, has more than five letters, and less than seven, beginning with the *nth letter of the alphabet, where * is the number of letters in the term. Had i been alluding to a phrase instead, that might well have been the one, and nicely euphemized I might add. Up on cripple creek? Music doesn't get any better than that. When I get off of this mountain..... Quote
Dadgad Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) What "temp" file are you referring to? What would the file type be? If I am not mistaken that would not be a temporary, but rather a permanent .fqd file format. Edited June 27, 2012 by Dadgad Quote
ReMark Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 .fqd? Never heard of it. You're making that one up. Quote

I've no doubt you'll bounce right back, just go ahead and set up the IV drip, put an extra couple of spoons in the pot, you'll be good as new by the time your neighbors wake up. Quote
SLW210 Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Vive et disce................ Try some dynOmite. What would posses someone to lock a standard components drawing? Quote
RobDraw Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I can't help but wonder if the OP ever had the password and he is someone who may want to "use" those standards for something they were not intended for. Quote
