PElgin Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm working on a model of a car with an internal louver - the louver goes into the hood, rather than protruding out from it. I can make it using straight lines but that is not authentic, it is rounded. I've tried using arcs from the shapes, attempting to follow the straight line route but can't get anything to work. Help, please! Thanks. Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Is this similar to what you are attempting to create? Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I could barely describe the convoluted way I made it in AutoCAD let alone describe how to do it in a program I have never used. Basically I created a solid tube with rounded ends. Sliced it lengthwise, exploded what was left (thus creating surfaces), erased what I didn't want. Result as shown. Quote
PElgin Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 I'll try that. How do I "plug" it into a plane surface? Thanks. Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 You mean move it to its rightful location? In AutoCAD I would use the Move command and OSnaps (for accuracy). I have no idea how to do it in 3ds Max sorry. I'm sure someone who is better acquainted with the program (therefore much smarter than me) will see this thread and help you out. Just be patient. Gotta run now. Good luck. Quote
Cad64 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I would probably build something like that as a normal editable poly and then check the "Use NURMS Subdivision" box to smooth it out. Or you could just apply a Turbosmooth modifier. Check out the attached file to see what I did. Nurms Subdivision.max Quote
ReMark Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 PElgin: See, I told you someone ^ ^ ^ smarter than me might read and respond to your question. Aren't you glad you waited? Quote
PElgin Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Thanks for the reply. I'll fiddle with it tomorrow. Quote
