bj2810 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Hi All, This is my first thread! Is anyone able to help me?... I work for a company that does sewer main design and am looking for a way to take X and Y coordinates from the modelspace (for the centre of the manholes) and automatically update a table with these coordinates. This is to eliminate the risk of the table not being properly updated manually when small changes are made to the design. Does anyone know a way that i could do this? At my old job, we used an add-in that allowed for the extraction of coordinates into a tag reference, so i suppose this is similar. Thanks in advance... Quote
MSasu Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I think the answer is already in thread's title - just look for FIELD command. Use Object as Field name, select the desired entity (Object type) and indicate Position as Property. Quote
bj2810 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Hi MSasu, Thanks for the quick response. I am aware that this will geive me the coordinates i require, however i am wondering if it is possible to seperate the coordinates (X and Y) and put them in seperate columns in a table, with them still auto updating. Sorry for not making myself clearer in the first place. Quote
MSasu Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 This is possible - you may define two different fields linked to the same entity for that purpose - for first retain X coordinate, respectively Y for the second one. Check this setting in bottom-right side of field setup dialog. Quote
bj2810 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 OK excellent i'll give that a try. Thanks again. Do you know if it is possible to put a field in paperspace linked to an object in modelspace? I can't seem to do it. Quote
MSasu Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I don't know either if this is possible. I did a quick test and seems that can create the field, but it isn't updated; maybe someone with much experience will provide an answer. An alternative solution is to create the table with locations in Model and show it in Layout trough a dedicated viewport. Quote
bj2810 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 OK thanks anyway. And if anyone else is able to help me, i would also be interested to know if i could create a field from an object that is externally referenced in, by linking it to the original source or otherwise... Quote
Dadgad Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Welcome to the forum. You want to look at the attached image which will help you to understand field updating, as controlled with the FIELDEVAL system variable. Yes you can create a field in paperspace which will access data from modelspace. You might want to explore the DATAEXTRACTION command, as it is very useful, and can be set up to do all sorts of things. Quote
