Tiger Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 So to remove and re-attach the commandline in versions 2006 and forward you can hit ctrl+9 or type commandlinehide / commandline. Does anyone know how to do it versions before 2006? Is it possible to remove the commandline in versions before 2006? Quote
dbroada Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I was about to say you can only remove it if you have dynamic input BUT I now rmember you could have a floating command line - but I can't remember how to do it. I know it sometimes floated right off screen and then you were in trouble. sorry, I'm not being helpful to you today am I. Quote

I was just taking a look at 2004 and this is what I found: To float the command window Click the move handle on the left edge of the docked command window and drag the command window away from the docking region until it has a thick outline. Then drop it in the drawing area of the AutoCAD window. I hope this helps. Quote

So it's possible to make it floating, and then you can move it off screen....anyone know how to get it back on-screen in that case though? But can we agree on that ctrl+9 did not work pre-2006? Quote
dbroada Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I can't answer either question (so why am I replying?) but from memory, we never deliberately moved it off screen. The only ways we could find to move it back were to edit the .mns file or sometimes you could reset your monitor resolution really high and find the command line and move it back on screen. I always kept mine docked but the boss had his floating. How we did it, I have no idea - it was in the last millenium after all. Quote
Tiger Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 So basically we don't need to answer that question - this is a FAQ after all, and I don't think disappeared floating commandline is a Frequently Asked Question. Thanks Dave, you're always helping even if you don't think so Quote
dbroada Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 The biggest question pre-2006 is why do you want to lose the command line. I know many people use menus & toolbars and F2 is always available but the command line is still useful for feedback. You could make it display a single line if you want more screen or hide it in your toolbars (how my boss had it). Once dynamic input became available a fixed command line was superflous so can be turned off with no loss of functionality. Quote
Tiger Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 The FAQ looks like this today, and it's pretty much done: If the Command Line at the bottom of the AutoCAD drawing edit window has disappeared, it can be restored by one of the following methods: Press Ctrl+9 Type COMMANDLINE (the text will not be displayed on screen) Go Tools Command Line Conversely, if the Command Line is not required, the above commands can also be used to toggle it off. This command was first introduced in AutoCAD 2006. We just want to try to prevent the follow-question "what about pre-2006?" We like to have as many follow-question answered before we launch it as possible. I just noticed that I have to add COMMANDLINEHIDE in there though... Quote
Strix Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 it has been asked as a Q for pre-2006, but I don't think a satisfactory response was ever submitted on a thread if it's a missing floating command line, I'm sure there's a windows function which governs bringing lost frames back - but have no idea what it is!
