gotgame7 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I have a drawing, with a couple Xref files in it (topography of Tract/LOT), overlaping eachother. I need to basically cut a hole in the middle of them so that I can place a house layout on top. How do I edit this Xref in my current drawing? I was going to explode, but cannot because it is an X ref. The two xref files are currently one object. Thank you for your time. If I cannot edit it without changing the actualy reference file, are there any suggestions? Quote
LifeoRiley0 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I just double click on the XRef and it opens the Refrence Edit command. it allows you to edit the XRef and save the changes. Just remember it changes the refrenced file. You may want to save a copy of it elswhere. You can also Bind the XRef to the drawing then edit it. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 If you do use REFEDIT (dbl click the reference) I would strongly suggest you make a backup copy. Quote
rkmcswain Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 If you do use REFEDIT (dbl click the reference) I would strongly suggest you make a backup copy. Agreed. Better yet, forget about REFEDIT and just open the reference drawing itself for editing. Quote
nocturne00 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Better to open the topo itself. as for the Hole w/c i assume would be the footprint of the house, just copy it and use "paste to original coordinates" on the topo file. then trim the contour lines. Quote
manhattan Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 if you are using 2008 or newer you could use the xclip command and select the invert option. this is basically the opposite of clipping the xref normally, instead it will clip the area inside the boundary you define. perfect for cutting a hole out of an xref and very quick too Quote
hotrodz0321 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 use XCLIP....it sounds like what you want this picture shows two xrefs...one is inside the other, with the outer xref cut out.....its pretty simple the object i have selected is the polyline used as the clipping boundary Quote
gotgame7 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 Thanks guys that helps. I actually took the original topo, saved it as another file, binded it, then exploded it. I'm pretty new to Autocad, I've been using microstation at school a lot so I guess I have to get used to it. Quote
