feargt Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 We have several users working with Autocad 2008, all our printers are accessed through the network. We plot/print plt files. Depending on the sheet size required we have a selection of pc3 files to choose from. But one user is suddenly getting an error message to say pc3 file not found. No other user has reported this problem and as I said all the printer drivers are on a network. We have also recently replaced the printer for which these pc3 files were originally created with a new one, but as I said nobody else has this problem Any ideas? Quote
rkmcswain Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 The error message says "PC3 file not found"? If so, then it sounds like the support path that points to plotters is incorrect. Quote
feargt Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 Unfortunately they path is the same on all computers, and I have checked it on this computer. We are pretty sure it is to do with the fact that recently the printer was replaced. it is just strange that only one user is having problems. We are dealing with it curently by changing the name of the printer driver that the pc3 file is pointing too. This seems to be working at the mo with no adverse affects on other users. Quote

If the error message is "pc3 file not found", then how are you changing the print driver that it's pointing to? Are you sure the error message is not talking about the print driver cannot be found? feargt Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 ok, I press the print button, the sheet layout already has 4 standard print setups to choose from and one is set for the sheet. But autocad can not find the correct pc3 file. therefore we automatically get a dialogue box saying that it cannot find the pc3 file and provides a list of different printers to choose from to replace the pc3 file. I hope I'm explaining this someway understandably. As we work with german versions of Autocad I have to try and translate it to the enslish equivalent Quote
feargt Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 This new dialogue box comes up before the printer dialogue box opens. Quote
feargt Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 no, it is a proper dialogue box (as opposed to an error message alert),which allows you to choose from a selection of other printers. But at the top says that it cannot find the relevant pc3 file. I will try to get a screen shot and post it then Quote

dbroada Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I haven't followed the whole thread but the message is the printer IN the pc3 file cannot be found, not that the PC3 file cannot be found. Has the errant computer got different printer settings and is looking for a printer on a specific network while the others aren't? Sorry if I'm not reading this right. Quote
feargt Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 Dave, you have read it correctly........We have replaced the printer that is IN thepc3 file for a new printer. That is (we assume) why we are getting this message. The issue is that only one person is getting this message. We all have the same network paths, the same search paths for the pc3 files all relating to this printer that we have replaced nobody else is having problems. The printer was replaced 2 weeks ago, but today is the first time this message has appeeared Quote
dbroada Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I know it doesn't help you but I have a similar problem here. I have a toolbar button that calls for PR06 which works on most machines but on one machine it wants PS01\PR06 and another insists on PR06.PC3 Even more confusing is that it changes depending on who is logged on. I've stopped trying to work out what is wrong and just live with the differences. Quote

This isn't saying that the PC3 file cannot be found, it's saying that the print driver referenced by the PC3 cannot be found. What print driver was this PC3 set up to use? If it's a Network Print Share, then have this machine connect to the print share. Quote
