joem Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 half way through an autocad seesion today (not online) I started to find that some of my text entries on keyboard were not being conveyed correctly to autocad drawing on screen. Then I found some of the command entries were not translating the figures entered. By trial and error discovered that j entered on keyboard changed to figure 1 on screen then k =2, l =3 m = 0, O =6, P = - and U =4 . Though i would try entering text in word then pasting into drawing but exactly the same result keyboard entry not leading to screen entry. Seems like a virus but this (old)CAD computer hasn't been connected to internet for over a year and use flash memory to exchange drawing files. Is there a fix or should I transfer Autocad to amore modern computer. I left it on old computer to keep it in use. Quote
ReMark Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Sounds like your keys were "mapped". How that happened who knows. Did you test with another keyboard? Quote
joem Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Speedy response good suggestion will try - not sure what keys being mapped means and first time I've known this was a phenomenon but have two computers and keyboards side by side so will now swap and check many thanks Quote
eldon Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 It sounds as if you are using a lap-top keyboard, and toggled the number pad keys. Quote
joem Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Problem resolved thanks to remark and eldon. I was using laptop and trying another keyboard worked. Later message about toggled number pads led me to try some mysterious looking buttens which I think reversed the process so all seems well. I might add the computer belonged to my daughter who gave up on it a few years back and I thought it useful to have at my side to keep my hand in with Autocad which I got into about 15 years or so and trying to keep in touch with. Great forum support guys Quote
ReMark Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Sounds like eldon may have been down the same path you took at one time. The credit belongs to him. Cheers. Quote
Dana W Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Yesterday, my wife unknowingly hit the num lock button. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong because I touch type and never use the key pad numbers. She said "The numbers aren't working." I tried the key board and said "Seems fine to me." Twice, we did this before I realised she was using the pad. EDIT: I posted this mostly to see if I could. I had two others fail to post. Don't worry, I'll be fine. It's apparently IE-9. Quote
