snoyo Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Hey everyone. I've had this problem for a few days and i can't find a fix anywhere. I'm sure its something stupid that I'm looking right over. I have a 3d model that I am trying to find the volume of, but when I go to use massprop, it finds 69 objects, and gives me "no solids or regions selected". I've tried converting the object into a single block, which made no difference. I can't seem to upload the .dwg either... If someone could tell be how, I'd upload it to show you all -Arthur Quote
ReMark Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 There are size restrictions to what one can upload as a DWG file. For MassProp to work your object has to be a solid. Can't use MassProp on a block. Quote
snoyo Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 its 1.21 mb, is that too large? I just drew my cross-section (closed shape), and revolved it- that's all. Is it not a 3d solid now? Quote
ReMark Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Maybe it was a solid but AutoCAD didn't like something (maybe a piece of stray 2D geometry) otherwise you would not have received the message. Quote
snoyo Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 http://www.mediafire.com/?8i6fubfer7f6j17 ^ there's the .dwg Im thoroughly stumped. I've got no clue. Quote
ReMark Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Guess what? You do not have a solid. You have revolved surfaces. Quote
ReMark Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Use the SURFSCULPT command. It's your only chance without redoing your work. Quote
snoyo Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 that seemed to do the trick. thank you! Quote
ReMark Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I was pretty sure it would. You're entirely welcomed. BTW...welcome to the CADTutor forum. Quote
snoyo Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 one quick thing- what is the volume unit used? I did everything else imperial, if it matters. Quote
Dadgad Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Welcome to the forum. The unit displayed by the program will depend on your -DWGUNITS setting. Type -DWGUNITS at the commandline, include the hyphen, and your current DWG database units will be displayed, as in the image, which informs me that the drawing units in my current drawing are mms, so the MASSPROP command will return measurements expressed in mm units, either squared or cubed.
