wings Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 The format of my autocad screen was changed somehow overnight. Most likely an automatic upgrade through my company's server. Anyway, It's got this horrible tab configuration that I've never used before up top (similar to my new internet explorer look). Plus my settings for things like my black screen and curser changed. Is there any way to get this format changed back to the way it used to look, traditional pulldown's etc.? This is crazy, deadline was not expecting this to happen, and there's no cad users but me in office today. Of cours this crap happens with deadline today. Help is greatly appreciated. Quote
ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 That "tabbed" thing is called the RIBBON. LoL I'm betting you ditched it in favor of the old school AutoCAD Classic with drop down menus (Menu Bar) and Toolbars. Am I right? Have you tried changing Workspaces? Quote
ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Workspace Switching icon located in your Task Bar at the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Click on it. AutoCAD Classic should be one of the choices. Try that first. Quote
wings Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 I did nothing. Closed out of a drawing last nigh that had the old pull downs, and opened up to find this thing. We run on a network, so maybe it was changed through there? This really sucks, I can't even find where my options are located. I've never changed "workspaces" before. Don't even know what that is. Just simple 2-d stuff here. This is bad. Quote
ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Tools > Options > Display tab. 1. Colors button. Click to get you to where you can change your background color if need be. 2. This is where you can change the length of your crosshairs if need be. Quote
SLW210 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Just type _OPTIONS on the command line and ENTER Go to profile tab and see if you have a custom profile. Quote
ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 It is not bad. It is just different. Try to remain calm OK? It isn't the end of the world yet. Did you look at the last image I posted? Quote

Do people like that format vs. the old pulldown format better? In Ie, I have not gotten used to it. Quote
ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 The "future" as you describe it has been around for a handful of years already. It's 2013 where I am and the RIBBON is alive and well. No, not everyone likes it but you cannot count on AutoDesk to keep some features forever. I see Menu Bars going the way of the dodo bird at some point. Quote

Yeah, I do have the profile, and have never typed "options" before, always used the pulldown for that so I couldn't find it via the "ribbon". lol. Timing just sucked as all - trying to get this thing out by 3:00 today. If not I would have messed around with the "ribbon" for a few hours and probably figured stuff out on my own. I suppose if that's the things are now then maybe I should do that - turn off the "classic" and get into the now. Of course when I'm not being pressed for time. Thanks again. Quote
ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I assumed you were not going to use the RIBBON to try to find anything. You can type the word OPTIONS at the command line or you can click on the big red "A" in the upper left hand corner of your screen and a dropdown will appear. There is a button labeled OPTIONS at the bottom. You can't miss it. I bet you didn't know you could have the RIBBON plus the Menu Bar plus any Toolbars displayed on-screen all at the same time. Quote

ReMark Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 It would be mainly for the person who likes to have one foot planted in the "here-and-now" and the other in the past. You're entirely welcomed. Quote
