Chikusho Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I`m new hear and somewhat new to Inventor. I have purchased TEDCF`s complete tutorial but haven`t come across what I want to do yet. Is it possible to make a somewhat complex solid box and then separate each individual side/top/bottom into individual parts so that they can be welded together at a later date? I know that sounds odd. I can attach the file if necessary. Quote
Chikusho Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks, that cleared it up my question. I really appreciate the fast response. Quote
dshowalt Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Along the same lines what are the major differences between "Make Part" and "Make Componet", both seem to be quite similar. Quote
JD Mather Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Make part allows you to push out one individual part. Make part is basically a shortcut to Derived Component and allows you to specify surfaces/solids/composites/sketches and other options. Make Components allows you to push out multiple parts and place in an assembly if desired. Quote
Chikusho Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Well I got that figured out. I made another part on top of my box and then extruded each part. Then went back and turned off the visibility of the box. I know how to extrude a rectangle, etc., but how do I tweak the sides of the extrusion, i.e., make the part bigger without having to delete it and then redraw? Over the past few days I`ve figured out quite a few features, but the learning curve is steep. Quote
JD Mather Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 You simple edit the sketch dimensions - no need to redraw anything. Attach your file here. Have you read this document http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/SkillsUSA%20University.pdf Quote
Chikusho Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Thanks JD. I just downloaded the PDF. You mentioned in another thread the Ascent training guides. I'd like to purchase the ebook, but I'm a bit apprehensive given that's a VitalSource format ebook. I'd rather have a PDF, Kindle or even iBook version. Quote
