There were many discussions in the past on this matter; here you can find an example. Please do a search on the Forum for other.

If I recall well, the general conclusion was that the results of such conversion isn't very satisfying, so the trace over solution is the recommended one.

Try a program called VectPDF it is a LISP that uses PStoEdit to convert PDF to DXF and creates text in AutoCAD. Needs to be a vector PDF. Otherwise you need a Raster to Vector converter.

As far as the results from conversions being satisfactory or not, it depends on your needs.

AutoCAD 2012 supports PDF attachments, but I also need to convert my PDF files to DWG or DXF format. I have tried some software to do the conversion - Adobe Illustrator, Any PDF to DWG Converter, Aide PDF to DXF Converter and VectPDF. Illustrator, Any PDF to DWG Converter, Aide PDF to DXF Converter are not free and VectPDF is freeware. VectPDF converts raster image to vector DXF format and it saves my time.

Do you know if this will work with AutoCAD LT?

It won't work. You cannot run lisp code in LT. It's one of the things you didn't buy when you bought LT, just like me.
