Arty Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Hi, I'm not sure of the right procedure to load im my xref. I've been trying to get it in from Layout by writing XREF in the comman line, right clicking and Attach dwg, choosing my file and loading it into my current file. After pressing OK, the command line say:" specify insertion point or....." Tried 0,0,0 to put it in the bottom left corner, but I can't see the title block it...? I have reconciled (or how you spell it) the layers. Also tried to copy the title block into my drawing and from there see it in layout, and it works, just not sure if this is an''acceptable"way of do it... Thank you Quote
Dadgad Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Are you trying to put your drawing sheet in Modelspace of Paperspace? Did you try ZOOMEXTENTS? Copying it into your Paperspace layout is fine. I would suggest putting your sheet in Paperspace, although there are those who would disagree. Quote
Arty Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 I was trying to put it in in modelspace, as I thought it was handy as I could move my drawing to fit inside the frame of the title block. tried zoom extents but then the drawing disapeared out somewhere.... Also tried to copy a A3 titel block from model to paperspace and that works nicely Quote
Dadgad Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 You should learn about VIEWPORTS which should be used in your paperspace, and through which you set up views and scale them to fit properly on your sheet when plotting. If you have copied your sheet from Modelspace to Paperspace without scaling it, then it is most likely not the correct size. A better solution would be to use the CHSPACE command, because it would move it and rescale it at the same time. The following very good video tutorial will likely help you. http://www.infiniteskills.com/demos/movie-player.php?h=685&w=890&movie=http://iskills-media.s3.amazonaws.com/autocad2012beg-demo/0310.mp4 Quote
Arty Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Thanks for the link! I'll look it up and continue my "exploring" of AutoCAd after that... Cheers Quote
RobDraw Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 If I understand correctly, you are trying to XREF a title block into the drawing. Is the title block drawing in paper space or model space? It needs to be in model space so that it can be XREFd. You can then XREF it into paper space or model space. I would highly recommend that you put it into paper space and use view ports. Quote
Arty Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Correct. Ok, I'll try again this time from model space. ---- Still can't see it... When I get "specify insertion point or....." and I click somewhere in my model nothing happens...No titel block is shown. Is there a setting you need to have ticked in to see xref's or...?? Cheers Quote
Dadgad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Sounds like you need to ZOOMEXTENTS. Quote
Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 I have done that, I have also made my viewport super big, still don't know where it is... *sigh* Quote
Dadgad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Wait a minute. The sheet which you are trying to xref in is in modelspace in the other drawing, correct? I would expect you to be now attempting to xref it into paperspace in your new drawing. Is that what you are trying to do? Have you tried zooming extents in paperspace? Quote
Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 I have one drawing with my site plan plus a separate file with my title block. In the layout of the site plan drawing i would like to have my titel block attached. Do you mean that I should have my titelblock XREFd into drawing, then from there into paperspace? Sorry, a bit new to model/paper space and xrefs and all... Quote
Dadgad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Sorry, don't try to XREF it into paperspace. Use the INSERT command, and insert it into paperspace. Quote
Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Okay...hmm, do you know how I take away a reference that's already been attached then? Quote
Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Think I found it, I just detached it from the reference list... I'll try to insert it instead... Quote
Dadgad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) Sounds like you are almost there, it could be done either way actually, you may find this less confusing. Edited September 12, 2012 by Dadgad Quote
Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Naw, can't see it... at basepoint i wrote 0,0 to get it to insert in the left bottom corner of my portrait layout, but i still do't see anything... Quote
Dadgad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Zoomed extents? Can you upload the title block drawing? Quote
Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 This is my title block A3P-2D.dwg Quote
Dadgad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) You had your sheet drawn really far away from the origin, which was why it was so hard to find when you inserted it at 0,0. I have relocated your sheet to 0,0. When you insert it now you should be able to find it. INSERT this new version to your paperspace, and you should be good to go. Once you are sure it is okay you can overwrite the name with SAVEAS, to the name you want to use. I really had a hell of a time finding it too. If you look in the image you will see the actual location, or should I say Zipcode, where it was inserted. The next time you want to create a sheet, start at 0,0 and you will be much better off. Arty Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Oh wow, Thank you so much for taking your time with this and thanks for sorting it out! So if I come across this again, do I have to find it and physically move it close or do you write X: 0 Y: 0 and the drawing jump closer to origin? Also, where did you attach the dwg-file? Quote
