KarolR Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I want to move all the lines of the sketch in order to place it anew relatively to the origin. I deleted all constraints that might interfere, also dimensions to the origin but no use, it doesn't let me move anything. And it says: "Check Constraint Settings for Sketch Edit Tools". What and where are these settings and tools, i didn't find those topics in the Help. The file is attached. 41-24-15 Drum.ipt Quote
JD Mather Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 How are you trying to move it? (works fine here - click and drag or add coincident constraint) Quote
KarolR Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I window select all of the sketch, then use the lower end of the long, vertical, construction line as base point and try to put it at the origin, then comes the message Quote
JD Mather Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 You do not need to select anything. Just click and drag the endpoint to the origin. That is what geometry constraints are all about - they keep your geometry connected. Quote
KarolR Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I forgot to say that i use the move command, then window select and try to move. then comes the message Quote
JD Mather Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 You do not need to use the Move command. Click and drag will move the geometry. This is what geometric constraints are all about. Quote
KarolR Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I found a coincident constraint on the origin. the glypth was visible only when i pointed at the origin, although i pressed F8 to show all constraints. I deleted that constraint also. I selected the geometry one by one, using the Ctrl button to add, and moved the whole sketch but it twisted, i don't know why. Indeed i can move everything without the move command, but why doesn't it work, in both cases? I attach again the modified file 41-24-15 Drum.ipt Quote
JD Mather Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Coincident constraints are shown as yellow squares until mouse scrub. Your sketch twists when you try to drag because you are missing obvious constraints and dimensions. Quote
KarolR Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) What does Equal constraint mean for arcs? In this sketch, to my surprise, i didn't want it so, there are two arcs with the same radius but with different included angles, and with Equal constraints. Does that constraint mean identical radius only? And, do i have to constrain, at least one line or arc to the origin? I made the origin point visible, but i cannot dimension anything to it. do i have to make one member fixed always? Edited September 22, 2012 by KarolR Quote
JD Mather Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I made the origin point visible, but i cannot dimension anything to it. Project Geometry. Read this http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/SkillsUSA%20University.pdf What does Equal constraint mean for arcs? Radius only. Arc length dimension added in 2013, prior releases required setting up function. Quote
