Dadgad Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Welcome to the forum. Is this happening to ALL of your files? Are they Autocad files? Saved as 2007, 2010 or 2013? Are you getting this error report on one machine, or on multiple work stations? Quote
ReMark Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 The same drawing file does not open whether you use AutoCAD 2010 or 2013. And this happened all of a sudden? When did the problem first occur? What is the source of the software? Quote
JD Mather Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 ... when we are trying to open the file it is showing the Preview very file ...Phani Nanduri Don't be fooled by the preview image - it is simply a bitmap thumbnail image captured at some point - it does not indicate there is recoverable geometry. What is the file size? Can you attach the file here? Quote
ReMark Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I find it highly unusual that suddenly all drawing files are seemingly unable to be opened in multiple versions of AutoCAD. Personally, I don't know if I would want to open one of these files on my system. God luck JDM. I hope there is nothing sinister embedded in one of these files. Quote
Dadgad Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) I find it highly unusual that suddenly all drawing files are seemingly unable to be opened in multiple versions of AutoCAD. We all want to help, and I rarely refrain from opening a posted drawing on the forum, but one of these could certainly be one of those rare exceptions. Edited September 27, 2012 by Dadgad Quote
ReMark Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Could it be that every single drawing file somehow got corrupted? I can't think of anything else other than a virus at the moment. I'll open a post. What I won't open is any file attached to a post in this thread by the OP. Let JDM do it. Quote
Dadgad Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 My question from the first post was never answered specifically. If it was a single file that seemed to be screwed up I would consider it, but this sounds like more than that. It would seem that by definition the .bak file would be a valid file, unless something really unsavory was going on. Quote
ReMark Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 What better place to share a drawing file that might be suspect than a CAD forum? Quote
JD Mather Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 My guess is that there is a language barrier involved here - the main reason I wanted to see a specific file. My second guess is pirated software and betting an example file will never be posted here. I think if someone has access to statistics of this site - there would be a very high percentage of first time posters never respond to questions and never post again. Seems to me there seems to be some commonality to their typical questions as well. "I lost my work, how can I get it back.... Autosave didn't save, how can I get my work back.... I see the preview, so I know something is in there, how can I get it back.... As far as opening downloaded files - We have a program called Deep Freeze installed on our computers that returns them to as-ghosted state each time the computer is rebooted. Quote
ReMark Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm glad to hear your institution practices safe computing. The pirated software idea crossed my mind too. Quote
JD Mather Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I guess the OP solved the problem! Quote
ReMark Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Or he went legit. I can't say that with a straight face. Quote
