I have Mastering 2009, I think the example you are talking about is where you create a mirror copy of the unit.

If that is the case then it seems like you have to remember the "Select From" in the step given when selecting the upper right corner, if you don't then it will just create a mirror and not give you the 5' offset.

(I wasn't aware if this, I just realized it now when following the steps)

Command if 'From' is selected

Select objects: Specify first point of mirror line: _from Base point:

: @2.5

Command line if you forget to use the 'From'

Select objects: Specify first point of mirror line: Specify second point of

mirror line:

>>Enter new value for ORTHOMODE :

Resuming MIRROR command.

Specify second point of mirror line: @2.5

The scenario is this: there is a 14' x 24' apartment unit rectangle (Unit Plan) that is to be mirrored to the right 5" (wall thickness) away from itself, after which the two rectangles are to be mirrored above themselves by 24" (alleged hallway).

The book says:

3. Click Mirror on the Modify toolbar, select the Unit plan, and press ENTER.

4. At the Specify first point of the mirror line:prompt, Shift+right-click the mouse and choose From.

5. Shift+right-click again, and choose Endpoint.

6. Select the endpoint of the upper-right corner of the apartment unit.

7. Enter @2.5

8. Turn on Ortho mode, and select any point to point the mirror axis in a vertical orientation.

9. At the Erase Source Objects? [Yes/No] : prompt, press ENTER. You'll get a 5" wall thickness between the units.

What I get, is a mirror image of the unit on top and not at all offset.

#4 is the important, remember to Shift-Rightclik and then select "From" at the top of the context menu. If you do not select 'From' then yes you get the mirrored image on top.

Notice if you have your OSNAP - Endpoint enabled then you can skip #5, I mean, no need to shift-rightclick, but you still need to select the top right corner

Yes! I have found that the only way it would work was by eliminating step #5.

Thank You All!!!

I always eliminate step #5 in everything I do. Could explain why I got audited by the IRS, have no seat on my bicycle and somehow can't delete objects in AutoCAD.

Sometimes i used instead of from, first i made new ucs origin to from point,Then 3. Click Mirror on the Modify toolbar, select the Unit plan, and press ENTER.

4. At the Specify first point of the mirror line:0,0 enter ....go on ...step.6,7,8,9.
