Hey guys,

Im having a few issues with the dimension arrow scales between a few different dimension styles.

The story is... we are working on jobs for 2 different clients and they have provided us with their dimension styles.

The confusion I'm having is with the arrow scales for each style.

Client 1 has a dim style with an arrow scale of 3.5.

Client 2 has a dim style with an arrow scale of 1.

When I use Clients 1's dim style on a DWG from Client 1 - the arrow size is normal, but when I use Client 2's dim style on a DWG from Client 1 - the arrow size is too small.

When I use Clients 2's dim style on a DWG from Client 2 - the arrow size is normal, but when I use Client 1's dim style on a DWG from Client 2 - the arrow size is too large.

So I'm just wondering - is there a variable stored within DWGs that influences how the arrow scales are interpreted?

I'm just confused as to why arrows from two dim styles with different scales look the same, on different drawings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

The program is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

Why are you mixing the dimension styles?

If you need to have different dimstyles, no problem, just create one and set it current.

The arrow size is called out in the dimension style, and it will be that size wherever you use it.

If you select an existing dimension, and change the dimstyle of that dimension, the arrow size will change accordingly.

Just make sure that an appropriate DIMSTYLE is defined and set as current in every drawing. :)

Hi Dadgad,

Thanks for the reply. It is hard for me to explain the problem I am having.

The simplest way to put it is...

In some drawings the arrow scale needs to be 2.5-3.5 in order to look normal, while in other drawings the arrow scale needs to be 1 to look normal - with the text height always set to 3.5 x DIMSCALE.

I understand that the arrow scale is controlled by the dim style, I was just wondering if there is another variable (other than DIMSCALE) which could be affecting the arrow scale.

The size of arrow is controled by DIMASZ system variable.

Mircea is right about that, as shown in the image  , but I am still curious about this.

Can you post a little snippet of a drawing containing both of the dimension styles?

I think we need to use the COMPARE option in the DIMSTYLES MANAGER to better understand what is going on here.

The DIMASZ variable is the one in your DIMSTYLE described as ARROW SIZE.

I usually use the same ARROW SIZE as my TEXT HEIGHT size, 2.5.

Are the dimensions in question ANNOTATIVE?

ARROW SIZE does not mean SCALE.

Size is a measurement, SCALE would be a factor.

When I say size, I mean that the different DIMASZ scale values are illogically resulting in arrows of different sizes, varying depending what DWG i am in.

For my standard dimensions, i used a DIMASZ value equal to my text height - which is 3.5. This works (and looks... regular) on all drawings to date.

Now we have a job which the client has provided us the their own dimension style, as well as DWGs to work in... the text size for these DWGs is 3.5 (normal) but the DIMASZ scale value is only 1 - and these dimensions look almost identical to the dimensions I create my way with my dim style. I have no problem dimensioning and getting the dimensions (and arrows) to look correct. Its just that for my method - in order for the dimensions to look correct I need a DIMASZ value of 3.5. And in the new clients DWGs I need a DIMASZ value of 1 for the dimensions to look correct.

Cheers.

Hey again guys,

I have just discovered the reason for the scale variation for the dimension arrowheads is due to the block definition of the “_oblique” block used for the first and second arrowheads.

Thanks for your help.

Good job, glad you were able to figure it out.

Thanks for letting us know. :)
