Dimensions way to big

Hello,

i am adding some new stuff to a print we got for my building. my issue is that when in model space i go to add a new dimension and the arrows are huge and the measurement is way off. the old dimension are smaller but say there length is greater. i have the dimstyle set right i believe. even when i take my new dimension and match properties the length is still wrong. Any help for a new Cad user.

Go into the dimstyle manager (DDIM at the command line among other ways) modify the current style, go to the Primary Units tab, check the scale factor box, should be at 1. The Symbols and Arrows tab will have the setting for arrow sizes.

 

I am assuming you are not using an annotative dimstyle.

thanks. i think that might work. but another question. when i check the properties of the old dimensions it has a dimstyle that isn't listed on my DDIM. ever heard of this?

 

Also correct i am not using annotative.

me again. i figured it out. i had to set the scale on the fit tab to 1 instead of 96 . and the reason the measurements were off is because whomever did this before me did a text override on all the dimensions to match a tiff he/she inserted.

I haven't run across that one yet, is the drawing from another software and now opened in AutoCAD?

Glad you figured it out. One suggestion I would make is to get the DIMSTYLE set to how you want it, then make a print out. I made mine by doing a screen shot of each tab. That way I knew what I was looking to change each time I went in to a new drawing. The more I did it, the less I had to use it.

I have a template I use for almost every drawing so I edit my dimstyles in there. If I am in a drawing that doesn't have the dimstyle I need I go to the DesignCenter, hit the home key to go to my template (you have to specify that once), drag and drop the dimstyle I want into my current drawing and I am good to go.

 

If the dimstyle name exists in the current drawing I don't know if dragging and dropping another one will update that one or if it will be ignored.

 

Same for most other settings, text styles, mleader styles, layers, etc.

@tomhamlet- that's what i just did! i just did a screen grap and tiled it out on a peice of paper. it now has it's own little spot on my wall along with all my other references.

@rkent- thanks i might try that out. i use my own layer on every new drawing to document changes.

 

so far i am just updating blueprints we have found to be wrong. i just got done one that the model space was never updated and all the layout was a xref of a pdf!
