KarolR Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I am in a sheet metal part file, but i made an extrusion of a reference body in order to design the sheet metal part itself. Can i convert this file to an assembly and later extract only the sheet metal features to build a separate sheet metal part? Quote
Ajcraig99 Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 can you post the .ipt file and i will have a look, little hard to work out exactly what your talking about otherwise. Quote
KarolR Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 I want to make an IDW drawing of the sheet metal part only. Can i convert the IPT file to an assembly file, and then save only the sheet metal part? Flowerpot.ipt Quote
JD Mather Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 There is no need for an assembly. First of all - when you created Revolution1 you should have selected the Surface Output option in the Revolution dialog box rather than solid. But since you didn't do it correctly - Right click on Sketch1 and select Share Sketch. Now simply do another Revolution and this time set it to Cut and it will remove your original revolution of the Flowerpot. This is very basic logical understanding of geometry. Should not take any training. Should be obvious in 2D AutoCAD or 3D Inventor - geometry is geometry. Quote
KarolR Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 So, when i will remove the revolved feature like that, when i will make an idw file from this file, i will remain only with the shhet metal? And what good it do to have selected surface instead of solid? Surfaces don't appear in idw? And if i want to send this ipt part with the trick to a manufacturer, could he make use of the sheet metal solid? They have to insert it, somehow, into their cutting machine Quote
Ajcraig99 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Send this to the laser cutters/ water jet flat pattern 2.dxf Quote

I made a revolved surface in a part file and made an idw drawing out of it. it's like it's solid, so, why did you offer me that? Quote

You can turn off the visibility of the surface in the idw drawing. The surface is reference geometry - just like the xy, xz, yz planes. Quote
