Have you tried PURGE?

Have you tried LAYER WALK?

Have you tried LAYER DELETE?

If those don't pan out for you, then you can use LAYMRG (Layer Merge) opting for the select by NAME option.

You will need to designate a layer into which you would like the contents of those layers merged,

after which, the layer or layers which you are merging into another designated layer will be deleted from the drawing.

Pay attention to the commandline prompts. After you have selected the layers which you want to merge, a right click will take

you to the prompt for the TARGET layer.

If you are using a drawing created from the C3D template then there are a lot of blocks already in the drawing and these reference most of the default (standard) layers, hence you can't delete them.

Purge will unfortunately only get rid of a small number of the layers. I believe in C3D that the Project Browser palette has linkages to the layers and so prevents the layers being deleted. You cannot delete the layers: Layer 0, Defpoints, currently active layer, layers containing objects and XRef dependant layers. If you want to delete the standard layers and blocks you will have to do a WBLOCK, but if you need to do this regularly just set up a template without the layers and blocks.

As already said, I would use the cruel LAYDEL command, which erase everything, but layer 0 and the current one: it has no mercy, so beware of dog...

Pesky layers are like fleas on a dog.

Nice dog by the way. Black lab?

If C3D is anything like the vertical products of AutoCAD, then an easy way is to use the -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command, Explodes all the AEC Objects and purges them, recreating the file into a vanilla AutoCAD DWG.

Just throwing it out there is all. ;)
