We have a drawing with 120 viewports on each show a plan or elevation of a house.

When you go into paper space from model all of the viewports do not display tehre images.

However when you plot/plot preview open the drawing first time the yare all shown/plotted.

Any ideas why this may be?

Cheers

Something to do with MAXACTIVEVP perhaps? I recall a discussion about this earlier in the year. Try a search.

Why do you need 120 viewports in the first place?

I was always under the impression that the maximum number of active viewports was 64. However, I think it was rkmcswain who pointed out a user could have a lot more than that. I'll have to find the thread to refresh my memory.

In the OP's case it may have something to do with the graphics card memory.

It only affects EACH layout tab, in other words, you can have up to 64 viewports ACTIVE in EACH layout TAB.

Yeah, that's what I thought too but I could swear rkmcswain argued differently.

Well, I never use near that many VPs, just going by Autodesk.

I also just searched Autodesk discussions, several discussions verify it is per layout tab.

I guess I was just confused. No matter. A simple test confirms what you have said.

I placed an object (a circle) in model space. I went to my layout and created 100 viewports. Only 63 (?) of the viewports display the object. The remainder don't.

My quick test. Not sure why it's 63 and not 64 though.:?

As I remember, the extra viewports are good, and will plot, they just don't display past 64 in paperspace. I guess one must be sure the first 64 are good and will never need revision once you need number 65.

Doesn't the modelspace count as one of the 64 available?

Why would model space be considered a viewport though?

That makes sense to me, you can have more than one view in model space and they are still called viewports. I do that when working in 3d, i usually have a top, side, and isometric of some sort so i can see multiple views of an object at the same time.
