Hi all,

I've posted something similar to this in the Lisp section however wondered if it could be more simple.

Does enyone know of a way to take a polyline shape (brought in from another program) and save or export it to a dxf at the same time as it being simplified and made "nice" (for want of a better word) so that the cutter doesn't stop every 2mm with the excess vertices?

I've heard of programs like Flexisign which can take a dxf, clean it all up whilst keeping the shape and then export as dxf in a nice polyline. Can You do anything similar with autocad? Seems like one of the front runner programs used for creating geometry for cutting should provide such a service surely?

"Seems like one of the front runner programs used for creating geometry for cutting should provide such a service surely?" Probably but then again you aren't talking about AutoCAD. Early versions of AutoCAD were architecturally based. AutoCAD was actually derived from a program called Interact by Michael Riddle.

Yes however AutoCAD is now probably the leading industry tool when it comes to producing geometry for cutting. And I'm pretty sure they must know this. So why not have something as simple as a polyline simplifying tool included?

I'm not sure where you are getting your information from but I would not consider AutoCAD "the leading industry tool for producing geometry for cutting." What is your aversion to a program like Flexisign? Is it the cost?

What about a program like Inkscape?

Check out this tutorial. Maybe you'll find something of use. http://cadsetterout.com/autocad-tutorials/cad-to-cam-cleaning-up-dwg-files-for-cnc/
