Noob Here, Utilities Within Profiles Drop?

Recommended Posts

So, new here, had a big long explanation wrote out of what is happening and then somehow got automatically logged off when I went to submit? Here is the condensed version lol...:

Anyway, when I layed out my horizontal storm utilities, I went to add them to the profile. Everything seemed fine until I added another pipe to a mh I had already added to the profile. When I added the new pipe, set all the slopes and ie's needed, then the mh's and pipe within that profile just dropped in elevation, like 10+ ft. It's like I selected everything and moved them down, except it happened automatically. If I force one of the ie's down to a much lower elevation, everything will snap back to the finished grade.

Any ideas on what is happening, or anyone else experience this before?

Figured I'd post up some screen shots to make it easier to understand what is happening.

So I drew in the utilities like I normally would, set the slopes, drops in the MH's, etc... When they appear in the profiles, they are hanging down below finish grade, but all the rim labels show the correct finish grade numbers as shown below.

Then if I change an IE dramatically to put an excessive slope on one pipe, as soon as I apply the changes it snaps back to the finish grade as shown below.

This is driving me nuts. At least 1 out of every 3 of my profiles have done this. At first I thought it was a setting in the "rules" for minimum cover. I do have some storm pipes that are very shallow depth. I have changed all the rules to allow for minimum cover throughout the project. I'm fairly new to using Pipe Network with C3D so I don't know if this is a "user" error, or a glitch.

Just to eliminate the obvious, you've double-checked the properties of the pipes and structures for holding inverts, right? At one time (I can't figure out if this is still possible) you could define a network so that every node adjusted to the lowest node. In other words, the slopes stayed constant, and when any node moved, the whole network moved with it. Or something like that, I don't do enough pipe work these days to be sure.

I've looked through all the properties diologue boxes that I'm aware of and can't seem to find anything related to holding an invert for a given network. I could see how that would be handy tool to have though, especially in my case where the site is very flat and I'm being held to minimum slopes from the outfall and all the way throughout the storm system. But I'm pretty new to using Pipe Network so it could still be an operator error lol...

If it's not the properties of the network parts themselves, the only other options I know to check are rules and commands. You've checked the rules, that leaves commands.

Thanks for the suggestions. I still can't get anywhere with finding the root issue. I've exhausted all the time I can afford to put into solving the problem. Like I mentioned before, I haven't used Pipe Network much so I'm at a loss on whether it's something I'm doing wrong, or if it's a glitch in C3D? For a temporary solution I placed some arbritrary MH's with a greater depth on defpoints layer within the alignments that were giving me grief. Now all my real utilities are showing up where they're supposed to be. I might tackle this again after we submit the drawings next week.
