COGO Point default description

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

In the Create Points dialog, under the default settings - is there a way to set the default description value to automatically increment up as you add points (manually in my case)? I have a rough old survey showing tree locations (as simple circles) and I'd like to add cogo points to each having them number themselves in the description (ie "TREE ##").

Is this possible?

Thanks

So you want "TREE #1", "TREE #2" and so on? Dont think it can do that...

Would you be OK with having the "label" reflect the "Tree XX" and not necessarily changing the description of the point?

If so, you can create a label style to do this as shown above.

I'm not sure I follow you. I have the Label style and description keys set up to label with just the number (the raw description would be "TREE [number]"). I was looking to have the default description (set to "automatic") apply the TREE and an incremented number, so the actual point number wouldn't need to match the tree's number (usually set by a physical tag on the tree in the field).

There was a suggestion over at the Swamp with a lisp that should work well, but I have not tried it yet.
