Elevation Reference Argument!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone resolve this argument?

I'm of the opinion that a NORTH elevation is as you look NORTH the elevation you show is what you see from point B.

However my colleague says that the NORTH elevation is the view of the NORTH side of the building (From point A). But I argue that this is the SOUTH elevation as you are looking SOUTH!

Whats the correct answer?

your'e right, your freind is smoking to much maurjaina the answer is in the question, the view from the north side of the building from A looking onto B would be SOUTH, from the compass and the postion of your building A is ovo NORTH of the building,

does depend on how you look at it though.

A is north elevation & B is south elevation.

that is the way we have always worked

I agree with dipali,

ask yourself what is the north face of the building, and that is the north elevation of the building.

It is not from where you are looking it is a reference to the building's

orientation itself.

Ill second on this.

but is it a company standard for you to name the elevations according to directions of the compass? what if the building were tilted 45 degrees.

One way to settle this would be to change how you name elevations to FRONT ELEVATION, LEFT SIDE ELEVATION, RIGHT SIDE ELEVATION and REAR ELEVATION.

:) just a thought

I don't think it matters so long as everyone you work with are aware of which is the company standard.

thats how we look at it in the building industry.

...what if the building were tilted 45 degrees...

Then it would be the NE / NW / SE / SW elevation !
