Casio47 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Hello All, Quick Question... What's the easiest way to save my file as read only? AutoCAD 2010 Thanks for the help Quote
JD Mather Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I don't know how to save as read only, but you should be able to right click and set the file to read only after saving. Quote
ReMark Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Why? Anyone else who receives the drawing could reverse the read-only attribute. Quote
KFW Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Network pathes with read-only is what i do "internally". and what about save as .DXF its read-only, isn't it? (when i use quick save or save and try to save over that existing "xy.dxf" i get an "xy.dwg"!) Quote
ReMark Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I don't recall saving as a DXF being read-only. Quote
dbroada Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 and what about save as .DXF its read-only, isn't it? (when i use quick save or save and try to save over that existing "xy.dxf" i get an "xy.dwg"!)definitely NOT read only. My version of ACAD will qsave a dxf file readilly. The only way I can think of to make a file read only is the way JDM first suggested (or write it to CD). Quote
ReMark Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 If you know DOS commands you can set the read-only ® attribute of a file. Quote
Casio47 Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Man, I really like this forum...the .dwg files are in a limited access folder, up in a share drive. for the people who do have access to the files, I don't care if they download them to their computer, change them all around for multiple what if scenarios, I just don't want them to upload their messed up files back into the share drive folder all screwed up. They can screw the files up all they want, as long as it's on their on computer, not my nice files up in the share drive on the network. Does that make sense? Thanks for the help Quote
dbroada Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 We just have access restrictions tied in to the users account. Only people working in the DO have write access to our network, every body else has read only access. Nothing to do with ACAD, its all down to the network administration. Quote
Casio47 Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Thought about the network administration route...then I remembered that area is a dark, dank scary place, with all sorts of creepy-crawly things all over the place! Quote
dbroada Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Sounds like JDM's method is best for you then Quote
