Family creation

Probably a simple, question to many on here for many, but im one for asking as you have guessed.

Im trying to create, an expansion vessel a basic 1000 L, ive managed to create a cylinder and give it height and depth parameter ete, but I want it to have a curve top and bottom (not flat).

The way im trying to do it, is by drawing an ellipse and extruding it and then trying to cut it through the cylinder.. but its not working and i know ive more than likely gone about this the wrong way.

Help again please

Nick

if anyone could make a short video that would be awesome :D

this is what ive done, I ended up drawing the outline and revolving it.. now the height an depth para' dont work :S

What I would do for the tank is create three separate revolves - the body, then the top and bottom caps. This way you can align and constrain the top/bottom caps to two reference planes that will represent the top/bottom of the main body, which will give you your flexing ability both in height and diameter.

The only thing is, the ellipse you've used for the caps, they might not flex easily due the type of path you're using. I'd have to think about that one, but I think it's possible. I'll try and tinker with it.

Family looks great tho! :)

that does kinda make sense, as it doesn't size correctly - and is there a way of turning the legs on or off (off for smaller vessels)

Cheers

Sure, just add an Instance Parameter, name it, the Discipline can be Common, but the Type should be the "Yes/No" parameter. This will give you an "on/off" so to speak if you select the legs and in Properties, tie the parameter to the "Visible" option under Graphics.

What would be the best method in drawing/modeling a twin in-line pump?

Do you want it to be a Parametric Family or not? Modeling is pretty straight forward in Revit. This is how I started out with Family Design... I just modeled it without Parametric values just to learn "how" to model in Revit. As time goes on your mind will begin to get creative in adding parameters to things.

No, doesnt have to be parametric.. ive tried copying one ive got and making it twin but smaller.. extruding a few circles. and sweeping round a circle but im not sure how to..
