muck Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Is there a plot method field in AutoCAD. A field that can be placed in a plot stamp or title block that tells the plotting scale method used to print a hard copy. It would tell if the drawing was plotted to fit or by scale such as 1/8"=1'-0" Thank you Quote
JD Mather Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 It would tell if the drawing was plotted to fit or by scale such as 1/8"=1'-0" Thank you I recommend always plotting 1:1 scale. That is what is in my templates. The scale of the viewport is a different topic..... ....but my paper and border size are what they are. Quote
ReMark Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 You want some kind of visual remind as to what scale your drawing was plotted to? Are you plotting strictly from within model space or are you plotting from a paper space layout? Layouts are normally plotted at 1:1 scale because, as JDM alludes to, it is the viewport(s) that are assigned a scale. Further clarafication is required from you. Quote
muck Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Most of the drawings I have are plotted in paper space. I am looking for a field that reads the Plot Scale in the actual Plot box when a cad user plots a drawing. Thank you Quote
ReMark Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) Since you are plotting from a paper space layout the plot scale is 1:1. Why would you need a field that reads the plot scale? Edited January 18, 2013 by ReMark Removed comment Quote
SLW210 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 The included Plot Stamp has a check box in the settings for Plot Scale. For a FIELD go to PLOT Category and select PlotScale, select output format of your choice. Quote
Dana W Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Execute the command "Field". In the Field category list, select Plot. Select PlotScale. There are several formatting functions in this 'Field' that, I believe, will help you display your drawing splotted scale. You will have to place the 'Field' somewhere on your paperspace. You can experiment with it. I have not used it, and am not sure how it works. It appears to be the scale of the viewport and not the dreaded Plot Scale since it contains ratios as compared to one foot as well as others. The Plot scale always has inches or milimeters on one side of the : or the =. EDIT: Sorry SLW. everyone else was so far;) off base, :PI just quit reading the posts before I got to yours. Quote
irneb Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Since you are plotting from a paper space layout the plot scale is 1:1. Why would you need a field that reads the plot scale?Usually because you want to print onto a smaller page. We do this a lot between A1 and A3 sheets - seeing as they're 50% scaled. This means a 1:100 plan on a A1 sheet can be printed on an A3 at 1:200 by simply setting the print scale to 1:2. There are various times this happens in architecture, e.g.: Some councils require a set of A3 booklets to accompany the large sheets - each department would then keep the A3's. Also sometimes included in the BOQ document. Many more times I've run across also ... too numerous to list here. Anyhow, thanks Steve & Dana for showing the field to use here. Quote
