kililio Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Hi, Ive made a floor layout plan on Autocad 2012 save it as .dwg now i'm opening Revit architecture 2013 and want to import this project into it how can I do that? Thanks! Quote
RobDraw Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 From the "Insert" tab, you can either link it or import it. Why did you start with AutoCAD if it is a Revit project? Why not just start it in Revit? Quote
kililio Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 I don't know I found that more click are possible in Autocad , i'm kinda discovering both software, i'm an interior designer, so guess revit is better for rendering all interior design related Quote
kililio Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 when i link it do i save it as revit format when i'm finished? or let it be as .dwg ? thx Quote
RobDraw Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 When linked it becomes a direct reference to the .dwg. If you make changes to the .dwg they will be seen in your Revit model. Similar to XREFs in AutoCAD. If you want a model of the floor plan, you are going to have to build it in Revit. You cannot just convert the .dwg to a Revit model. Quote
kililio Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 and vice versa? if i make changes in Revit they will be displayed in autocad? Quote
RobDraw Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 No. You cannot link a Revit model into AutoCAD. If I were you, I would pick a program and stick to it unless you want to do the same thing in both which would double your work. The ability to link .dwg files into a Revit model is just for display purposes usually used as a guide to build the model, like tracing over an image in AutoCAD. None of the intelligence gets into the model. If you haven't had any classes or walked through any tutorials for Revit, I would strongly suggest that you do one or both. Quote
PotGuy Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I'd personally reccommend using AutoCAD's 'AutoDesk Revit Structure 2012 fundamentals. Goes through the way Revit works where it introduces you to the basic mechanics, then ramps it at a steady pace until you startbuilding Foundations, Walls etc. It coesm with it's own CD for the Practise sessiosn which are thoughroughly explained and very intuitive. It's what I'm currently using at work to learn the basics. Quote

kililio Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Thx Rod I should have done all that in Revit first now I have double the work Quote
kililio Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Can I delete autocad from my system without losing the libraries I installed (when launching Revit) ? (.rte etc) Quote
Lee Roy Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Don't "delete autocad", but you should be able to uninstall it. (though I wouldn't) You really need this book: Revit 2013 Architectural: Essentials Quote
