I'm running AutoCAD 2013 on a Windows 7 x64 computer. It's got an AMD dual core 2.6 Ghz CPU in it and 2GB RAM.

When I first installed AutoCAD 2013 it seemed to take a long time to load. Once it was running it was quick and snappy. A few months ago, I noticed it really started to slow down on load. Again, it ran quick once it was going but loading seemed to take forever. I placed a stop watch on it one day and observed that it took almost 3 minutes to load.

Recently, I noticed there was an Adware program called InfoAtoms which had been loaded on my system without my permission. It required Admin rights to remove it so getting our IT people to come around and take care of it took several days. Immediately after this program had been removed, I noticed AutoCAD now took less than 30 seconds to load.

A few days later, the the lovely lady from the IT dept came back and installed a Java update which installed the Google Toolbar...by mistake. She's new so what can you say. I once again had to wait on them to come back and use their Admin rights to uninstall this toolbar. But alas, AutoCAD is now back to taking 90 to 120 seconds or longer to load. It runs fine once it's installed but watching that darn opening screen can seem like an eternity.

Anyone have some suggestions on what may be wrong? My home computer which shares the same license for this AC 2013 package loads and runs fast.

How many folders/items from your support paths are server based? Here if our server is bogged down a lot CAD seems to load slowly with all the support paths we have put on our server.

I'm with you on the Java updates installing those Cr@pWare, same goes for many AV updates :nono: ... as soon as something like that happens I write foul emails to the manufacturer, they need to know that this is causing people to go away from their program. In that vein IBM's version of Java is apparently more "secure" and "fast": http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/downloads/software/websphere/runtimes_for_java_technology

But I simply disallow Oracle's Java from ever attempting an update. Until I read on the forums just how bad their new updates are I stick with that last least irritating one. And seeing as I disallow java apps in my browser anyway, the only reason I need java at all is so some of the addons to Libre Office works. if not for that I'd have uninstalled the damned thing - Java is a fosil, it should not be used in web anymore (especially not with the new HTML5 becoming prevalent).

Now to get acad to startup quicker: Have you disabled the Communication Centre? http://otb.manusoft.com/2010/11/disable-autocad-infocenter.htm

Even with that turned off I've noticed something: disconnect your network cable (especially if you're connected to the internet through it) and acad starts like it's on steroids (usually no more than 3 sec). ACad tends to up- / download some info if it can connect to the adesk servers. Sometimes this connection slows the startup down drastically. I've actually installed a Komodo Firewall which allows you to specify which programs are in fact allowed to connect to the internet - ACad is disallowed because of its slow startup.

If none of that helps, then there's some settings issue (perhaps a misnamed / moved / deleted folder). You can seeing what Process Explorer tells you about what's causing the hangup on acad start.
