Al Rivera Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hello...I just started trying to use autocad R.14 and I have been used to using Micrografx Designer 4.1. I have a question regarding how to cut (or erase a part of a circle, or box, etc) if I have made it with one of the circle icons etc. In other words, I am trying to make a cylinder and don't want the back side of the lower circle to show.....how do I do that? ziemerd Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I would use the TRIM command then select where the lines intersect your circle and right click. Then select the edge of your circle you want to eliminate and right click. Hope this helps. Dawn Quote
Al Rivera Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Dawn, Thanks for the response. I have tried to select the intersecting area, but when I right-click, nothing happens. The exact sequence that I did was 1.) Select "trim", 2.) Select (inside the square box) the intersecting areas, 3.) right-click, (I have no action after the right click, so I cannot go any further on your instructions...can you help me again? thanks, Al Quote
Al Rivera Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Dawn, I forgot to tell you that when I select the area, I can move my mouse and the box gets bigger or smaller, based on the mouse location, even with me right-clicking....if I left click, my box goes away. thanks, Al Quote
ziemerd Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I'm not sure I can help you much further. I'm not that familiar with R.14 but you can load up the file and perhaps I or someone else could take a look at it. Earlier you said something about a cylinder but now you are talking about a box. Am I missing something? One last thing is make sure you use Osnap to find the interesection and left click to select. You'll need to select two different intersections and then right click. Then click on the part of the object between the two intersections that you want to eliminate. I'm not sure what to tell you about things getting bigger or smaller depending on the mouse location. I know that will happen if you have selected a circle and haven't put in a diameter or radius. Sorry I can't help you further. Hopefully someone else will jump in and give you a hand. Dawn Quote
ziemerd Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I just thought of something else. If you don't get a response and haven't resolve the issue, start a new thread and name it something pertaining to your problem instead of just "Help." This will get you more responses. Quote
Al Rivera Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Dawn, I finally got it to work....don't ask me how, but I luck into it every once in a while....one other thing..how can I "group" a group of components together.....? BY the way, the box vs. cylinder was just an example...thanks, Al Quote
ziemerd Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Try typing group in the command line and see what you get. If I remember right there use to be a way of selecting that command by selecting your objects to group and then right clicking. See if that works for you. Quote
