deziree Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I don't know what else to do so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. I have a few drawings that have the EXACT same X-ref Files in them and about half of them take 10 minutes to open. Another one takes the normal 2 minutes. I have purged the file. Run an Audit. Said yes to fixing Errors. It seems to slow down when trying to load the X-refs. I have also purged and run an Audit on the X-ref themselves and removed any un-needed files. It is driving me nuts it should not be taking this long to open a file. I am running CAD 08. Nothing fancy with it for these. I do have CAD Civil 3D desktop companion but am 90% sure I do not have any data in these drawings. Quote
Connect Project Tech Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 im not too sure how much of a difference it makes, but are there any filters or wipeouts on them? are the drawing files the same size? Quote

I removed the wipeout frames on all my x-refs Filters?? Not even sure I know what this means HAHA Crossing drawing approx 800KB takes 10 minutes Alignment sheet approx 850KB takes no time at all to open Quote
myself Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Have you tried to reset the scalelist? A similar thing happened to me and turned out to be that, Autocad 2009 does that whenever you open any drawing, although on other versions that doesnt happen, so better do it from time to time in some fo your drawings. Although I am pretty sure this has been done since I have 09 at home and worked on these there I will gladly try anything again. What is the command to run a scale reset? Quote
deziree Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Well that might just be my problem... I just got an error when I tried to run it. "Index was outside the bounds of the array" Quote
d_lay123 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Make sure you're using the "-" in front of scalelistedit. A number of my problem consultant drawings will error if you use the pop-up box command. Because so many of my 2008 consultant drawings come in so filthy I've created a custom command button with the following macro: ^C^C-purge;r;*;n;-scalelistedit;r;y;e;-purge;a;*;n; The first kills all regapps and can cut down my filesizes by as much as half (acad will reload any it needs anyway) Quote
ReMark Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 d_lay123: Excellent advice there regarding killing unused regapps. People don't realize what they can do to a file size. Nice! Two thumbs up for you. Quote
d_lay123 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 All should keep in mind: a regular purge does not get rid of regapps, only "-purge" Don't know why not. I don't write 'em, I just use 'em. Quote
Foz Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Deziree, Not sure if you still need this but attached is a zip file for a scale list edit tool that we run on entire folders. It saves time and ensures that all files are being cleaned. The only caveat is that all drawing files in the folder that houses the drawings must be closed prior to running the utility. Regards, Foz Scale_List_Cleanup_Utility_32bit.zip Quote
d_lay123 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 note: this needs to be installed in the main autocad folder, otherwise it will not work. Quote
Foz Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 That is correct and is explained in the readme.txt file included with the zip file but thanks for clarifying. Quote
d_lay123 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 :huh:I didn't get a readme.txt in the zip file.... Quote
Foz Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 My bad, I assumed it was attached, shame on me. There is a word document that is probably embedded in the .exe file and available only after running the .exe file. The missing file is attached. Scale List Utility Installation Instructions.doc Quote
wentel Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 The utilities for cleaning the scales and the registered applications are on the Autodesk site under AutoCAD 2008 and 2009. They both work similar. They can clean out folders/subfolders. Quote
