I am trying to construct a dynamic "leader" block for our team to use to identify components on our BOM drawings. We are looking for something really simple but are having a tough time trying to get the lines to stretch and un-stretch.

Leader.jpg

I have attached a simple JPG showing the Attribute in the center a line going up and another line going down from the attribute. We want to set up grips where the red arrows are on the lines and allow us to lengthen and shorten based on dragging these grips.

Is there someone out there who has successfully made a line a dynamic block that could assist us. We have looked ont he web and this forumn and havent found a clear example to use to get this done.

Thanks in advance for your help.

So, you are just wanting the the two lines you are showing to be lengthened or shortened verticall as its shown now.

Yes, I think it should be so simple, but when we try to do it the line either moves or doesn't do anything. We cant seem to figure it out.

you need one distance parameter and two stretch actions, on for the line and one for the text but this one should have a .5 multiplication factor. Alternatively you can keep the text in the middle using restraints using ACAD2011 (but I can't remember how to use them).

I don't want the text to move or re size, just the ability to lengthen or shorten each line independently. I tried some more after my previous post with both polor and stretch and havent been successful yet.

in that case two distance parameters each with a stretch action. Limit each distance parameter to only one grip.

This did not work properly either. When we move the grip the line doesn't respond like we expect. We wanted to come up with something that the line stretched and unstretched with the grip. We've adjusted settings, tried different parameters and haven't had any luck.

With that said, we cannot spend any more time on this. We have researched the web, read forum boards and posted questions and at this point I've spent more time that Ill save in a year drawing these by hand!

Thanks for everyones help, some things are just not met to be automated!

post what you have made and somebody will look at it for you.

You may not save much time on this one task but once you start mastering dynamic blocks you will see time gains all over the place.
