recommendations please , only from your own experience . (not from what is written on the internet). please do not post what you think is better,( the workstation will be bought in the USA) only technical specification.

the workstation will be used for 3d in autocad and CadWorx with up to 5000 piping accesories in one file.

Have you looked at any of the Xi Computer workstations? They are consistently ranked in the top three of catalyst magazine CAD computer comparisons. You might also want to check out a line of custom built computers by a company called ThinkMate.

 

General config:

 

Win7 64-bit Professional

12GB RAM (minimum)

Mid-range graphics card (not an onboard chip)

SSD for boot drive and a platter drive for data storage

What version of AutoCAD and CADWorx?

 

2013 both.

As for the CPU I would look at the 3rd generation core i7 based systems over the Xeon based units. Right now I think that for $2000 you'd get more bang for your buck with the i7 over the Xeon.
