genmech Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Hello and sorry if this is in the wrong section. I am looking to see if any of you fine folk have a recommendation for a large format color printer. we recently discovered the need to print out 12" x 18" prints and don't want to have to waste our plotters paper or ink. plus the plotter is in a whole other area and i want this thing to sit on my desk. i am looking for something like ( http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/157698/Epson-Stylus-Pro-3880-Inkjet-Large/ ) this but figured you folk might have one at the office or home that you love. ReMark Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Do you need gallery-quality color for a truly photographic look or is that overkill? Quote
genmech Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 would be overkill. manly using it to print layouts and information. maybe every now and then i'll make a sign but it doesn't have to be top of the line. Quote
ReMark Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 And you never have any need to print something bigger like an 18x24 or 24x36? Quote
genmech Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 18x24 would be nice but not a requirement. i have access to a plotter that does Arch D. pretty much just looking to not print on regular paper then have to use a magnifying glass to check prints. Quote
ReMark Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 And does any printer you look at have to have color capability? Quote
genmech Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 yes. we have a need to color code drawings . Quote
ReMark Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I would find at least one other printer that is similar then see if you can obtain a test print from each in both black & white and in color. What other features are important to you? Quote
genmech Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 pretty much the only features i must have are color. ability to do up to 12x18 and network connectable. Ability to run on windows 7 >should be a given Quote
ReMark Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 You can ask the local dealer to make the prints for you. Provide them with a sample file of your choosing. You might try comparing the Epson to a similarly featured Cannon printer. Quote
