Stanier Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Hi - I notice that when copying and pasting objects to another part of the same drawing it does not appear to be possible to get an exact alignment with the grid structure. I have done this with OSNAP switched OFF and with Snap ON but it does not give the desired result, the elements of the copied drawing always being just off the grid and not in true aligment Where am I going wrong? Kind regards Quote
eldon Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I would suspect (without looking at your drawing), that you would need Osnap ON and Snap OFF. Choose a common feature like the intersection of grids, and using Intersection Osnap, position the copy exactly, otherwise you are positioning by eye. Quote
Stanier Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 The drawing in question is a very simple structure consisting of just a few lines and a circle and when first drawn with Snap ON, is in exact alignment wth the grid. Misalignment occurs after copying and pasting. Quote
JD Mather Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I never used Grid, but what if you moved with basepoint? Attach this very simple file here if you can't figure it out and remove all doubt. Quote
Stanier Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 Have attached the simple drawing in question Brake Piston.dwg Quote
eldon Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Your Snap spacing is 1/64 and your Grid spacing is 1/16. Perhaps it is easier if you do not use these drawing aids Quote
eldon Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 If I align your drawing to the grid, then the surrounding frame is not to the grid or snap spacing. Perhaps you were copying by reference to the frame line instead of the objects Quote
JD Mather Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 After seeing your drawing - I recommend that you turn off Grid and Snap and forget you ever saw these (unless you start modeling something like circuit boards or something similiar with standard spacing). Direct Distance Entry, Offset and Trim/Extend are much more efficient. Quote
eldon Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I am not sure why one would Copy (Cntrl C) and paste (Cntrl V) in the same drawing. If you do that then the insertion point seems to be the extreme bottom left hand corner of the entities. Because the outline round your drawing had NOT been drawn with Snap on, every time you pasted, the base point was the bottom left hand end of the frame, which always went to a Snap point, whereas the rest of your drawing was not to Grid or Snap. You should just try the command Copy when you can choose the base point or the displacement directly. Quote
RobDraw Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 You should just try the command Copy when you can choose the base point or the displacement directly. x2 or copy with base point if you need the objects on your clipboard. Quote
