Lewis C Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Hi guys, Basically, I want to edit this part, I need to stretch out certain faces but the edit form tool is faded out and I don't know why? I have used it before with no problems.. is there something i'm missing? Many Thanks, Lewis. Quote
Lewis C Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 It must be something really simple, because I can't use the edit form tool for any other models either... Quote
JD Mather Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Why can't you simply edit the dimensions (the correct way to edit a model like this)? (there are other correct ways, Edit Form is not associative) Edit: upon closer examination of your feature history tree - I see a reason why you couldn't simply edit the dimensions - looks like you have an imported part. I would use one of the techniques other than Edit Form. If Edit Form was the correct way I would explain how to get it back, but I don't think Inventor Fusion should be used. It should have never seen the light of day. Quote
Lewis C Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Yes you are right, it was a .step file, so I cannot edit the model properly. The reason I wanted to use edit form is because it's easy to just stretch and extend faces, and then import it back into Inventor, job done. I don't need the model to be perfectly modeled as it isn't really important with this application, if you know what I mean. Thanks, Lewis. Quote
JD Mather Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 One of the "correct" techniques might be to right click on the Base node and select Edit Solid. Quote
Lewis C Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Ah that worked! But I need to edit the model with the modifications I have made? That undo's all my work. Quote
JD Mather Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Try the Extend/Contract body to stretch your part. You might first need to create a workplane at appropriate location. if nothing else, Select Convert to Standard Part on the 3D Model tab and you should have your Edit Form tool back again. (edit form doesn't work in Sheet Metal environment) Quote
Lewis C Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Hi again, I actually found it easier to use the 'split' tool, 'move bodies' then 'combine', I turned the visibility off of the bodies I didn't want, But because there are multiple bodies I cannot convert back to sheet metal! Is there a way I can delete the bodies I do not want in order to convert to sheet metal? Many thanks, Lewis. Quote
