freewillie Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Hi Folks New to the forum here but not autocad. I started back on r12 and use the product ocassionally to plan machine shop work. The problem i am having is that i always create a layer to dimension with ...but auto cad 2013 is defaulting to layer am5 to put dimensions on my drawing ...even though i am setting my dimension layer as the current layer on the layer manager. This as you can imagine a causes visual mess on multi layer drawings as all the dimensions are going on this am5 layer... how do i shut this default off?? thank you in advance! Bill Quote
SLW210 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Dimensions will be placed on the layers you specified in Object Property Settings dialog box in Mechanical, if memory serves me correctly, been awhile since I used Mechanical. Should not have any effect on AutoCAD vanilla. Quote

I can change the properties of the dimension to the layer i want in Object Property Settings dialog box in Mechanical ... but the only way to shut the dimension off is by shutting off the am5 layer. I just tried drawing a new dimension on the layer "dimension". when i check the properites it says it is on the layer "dimension" but if i shut off the "dimension" layer nothing happens {even when it is not the current layer} . If i do not want to see the dimension i have to shut off the am5 layer. Ive never had this happen before on 2011 version only on this 2013..hmm i wonder if it has anything to do with using the auto dimension feature? Is it calling up layer am5? I cant believe am5 over ride is happening... it seems like the lowest form of autocad function in wanting to just draw dimensions on a particular layer. Quote
