rab
I'm really stuck this morning. I have downloaded a Revit file for a Thorn light fitting. The problem is the family is face based and I want to place it running on the sloped surface of a stairwell. I can't find any way to do this. There is no tick box for 'always vertical' within a face based family. I can't see any way to make it work plane based. I can't export the geometry to a different type of family. rab
I found a solution. Create a new project with the family in it. Link that project to your main project. copy/monitor the family. It will now be non-hosted.
Lee Roy
So you're wanting a face-based family to be non-hosted? A face-based family will host to any face you place it on. I have a guy that has complained because his jelly jar light accidentally hosted to some steel framing. Check the original family for "Always Keep Vertical" and uncheck it. rab
I have a manufacturer created face based family there is no option for 'always keep vertical' meaning I couldn't place the family on a slope. That's why I had to go through the steps listed above.
Lee Roy
Could you upload the family here?
Lee Roy
...or tell us the manufacturer and part? Creating another project just to dissociate a family from a plane is 100% the wrong way to utilize Revit.
