I'm drawing a setting-out plan for landscape construction purposes and need the dimensions to have an arrow in the middle of the dimension line to indicate to the contractor the route to follow around site.

Is this possible? Been searching on forums for ages but just come up with info on the dimension arrows/ticks themselves.

fingers crossed some clever person will enlighten me :)

thanks for the fast reply

 it's not given me a convincing arrow unfortunately, the hyphens and greater than symbol are out of line.

It looks pretty good here, maybe use 4 or 5 greater than signs. An alternative is to change the first arrow to a dot, leave the second arrow as an arrow, indicating flow from dot to arrow.

Just do a extra leader this is what I use for a single arrow matches dim style draw over top of dim.

2 methods that I would use:

1. Use leaders but end the command after the first 2 points.

2. Draw a 3 point polyline and edit the thickness of the vertex start and end segment widths

The 2nd method is my preference because it looks better, but takes a bit longer to get the desired result.

Building on rkent's ideas: What about inserting some suitable symbols below the dimension text? Perhaps some Wingdings would work? First, dbl-click on the dim, go to end of dim text, then hit return. From there, go to Other... in the Symbols list, choose a character map, then select, copy & paste.

If you want more help, you might try showing what it should look like, and also mention what you would be willing to live with. From what I could tell, you are trying to preserve the dynamic dimension value and keep the arrow with the dimension/text.

I was looking around a bit more in the editor and noticed that you can vary the distance between characters by using Tracking. I was able to make some equal signs touch in this way. But you can also adjust the Width Factor to make a much longer single character, e.g., a hyphen, an equals sign, an arrow symbol. In addition, you can vary the Text Height of individual characters so that they align more to your liking. There may be other useful options for this case; however, this is new territory for me. I've never needed to add this sort of thing to text or dimensions, thus never needed to adjust things to this extent. I may find a use in the future, though!
