greedy86 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Ok....so this probably happens around once a month for me - i'm not sure if it's me - or the drawing i'm using or what....please help. So....the thing is.... F3 = Ortho On & Ortho Off F8 = OrthoSnap On & OrthoSnap Off Yes? Anyways.... Occasionally - i'll switch Ortho On and then when i try to switch OrthoSnap On - it will switch Ortho Off before it switches OrthoSnap On! yeah....i know it's minor - but it's very annoying/frustrating! Any help would be much appriciated! Thanks Quote
ReMark Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 According to the Quick Reference Guide for AutoCAD 2004... F3 - Turns running object snaps on and off F8 - Turns Ortho mode on and off Why did you switch yours? Quote
eldon Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Either someone has been changing the default keys, or there could be an element of finger trouble. Default settings are:- F3 toggles Object Snap, F10 toggles Polar tracking, F8 toggles OrthoMode. Setting Polar tracking will switch off OrthoMode. I am not quite sure what your OrthoSnap is. I do not seem to have that function Quote
greedy86 Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 My apologies - you are correct. Typo on my part! But....if i hit F3 followed by F8 it cancels the F3 command... For Eg. If i hit Snap "on" and then turn Ortho "on" i have to press F8 twice and the first time it switches Snap "off" It's very strange and hard to get my head around. Thanks for the reply Quote
ReMark Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Are you sure you're talking about OSnaps? Could it be you really mean "Snaps"? I still have 2004 loaded on my computer so I ran a quick test. I enabled Orthomode and my Osnaps too. They both work at the same time. Neither one will cancel the other. What edits have you made to your menu files? Quote
greedy86 Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 I don't think i'm explaining it well.... If i hit F3 then F8 (F8 undo's the F3 command) Quote
ReMark Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Not in my version of 2004. When did this start happening? Was it right after you edited the acad.mns or acad.mnu file? Quote
pollip1 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I know exactly the problem you're talking about. It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes the toggling of functions such as Grid, OSnap, Ortho get linked. It indeed annoying because when you're in the swing of drawing you press F8 to toggle Ortho on and it switches the grid off instead. Then you press F8 and it turns ortho on, but now my grid is off and I want it on.... I can't find any good info about this. As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be a legitimate feature of new versions of ACAD (I'm on 2013) so I think it must be a bug. It seems to be fixed for me by closing and re-opening ACAD. Quote
