Hi everybody!

I'm an architecture student, trying to complicate my life a little bit more than required. I'm trying to make the next object in AutoCAD so I could "analyze" the form and its shadows with descriptive geometry later: asset.php?fid=39590&uid=116848&d=1365074848

I'm pretty new to AutoCAD (I have the 2012 version) but I'm familiar with all the basic stuff since I've had some experience with SolidWorks. What I tried so far was to create a cube as a frame for my spline and then sweeping it with a rectangular shape.

I've been having trouble with the constraints in the intersecting points. I can't figure out the exact shape from the start and it makes it hard for me to play with the form later. I'm also having trouble to actually make it look like a knot.

Any suggestions or references on how to approach this problem?

Appreciate it,

Julian

Untie the knot?

Just kidding.

What is the relationship to architecture? If you were to design a building like this good luck having it constructed.

You're using constraints to do this?

Are you also using splines?

It doesn't really have too much to do with architecture. It's more of a personal challenge (:

I'm not sure about how to use constraints in this case, and yes I'm using splines.

"I've been having trouble with the constraints in the intersecting points." I took this to mean you were already using them or at had attempted to do so.

What have you drawn so far? Can you post a copy of your DWG file?

What if you broke it down into three or four sections?

Maybe in could be done using a mesh object?

Something like this?

(3d-Spline, turned into a 3D-Polyline, Extruded Circle)

Regards

and Good luck
