adam2706 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I am currently trying to model a pair of ski/snowboard goggles and am having some difficulties. The ways I have gone about it are making a projected sketch of the lens and then using that to loft and sweep. This hasn't proven to be effective. The hard part is that the lens curves both horizontally and vertical. My last resort would be do use 3D sketching and surface model it, but before I spend countless hours on it I thought I would see if anyone has any pointers or suggestions. Any ideas? Here is an example of the type of form I am after http://www.freepatentsonline.com/D0536021-0-large.jpg Quote
ReMark Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Take a look at some of the Solidworks tutorials created by Mark Biasotti. There is one for ski goggles. http://www.swtuts.com/?p=329 Quote
adam2706 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 Thanks for the tip, unfortunately I cant see any of the history of how the model was made. All it said was Imported part 1-8. Any idea of how I can get the step by step list of features? Quote
ReMark Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Sorry about that. I assumed that when someone creates a tutorial they actually take one through the process step-by-step. Unfortunately I don't use Solidworks and I can't point you to a list of features either. I found Mark's site via an Internet search. Have you tried as well? Quote
adam2706 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 ya. I attempted leaving him a comment to see if I might be able to get the actual part from him. We will see though. Quote
ReMark Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I found his website by searching on the following... "solidworks"+"goggles"+"tutorial" Type it just as you see it. Quote
JD Mather Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Goggles would be an advanced problem, I recommend you start with something easier. There are a bunch of tutorials here http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/content/DSG322/SolidWorks_surface_tutorials.htm email me for the start files. Quote
adam2706 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 It is one of those things where I am through the ideation and concept sketching process and my instructors are wanting some 3d models and renderings and I am having some issues making my surfaces line up and not kink Quote
ReMark Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Can you post an image of what you have so far? Quote
JD Mather Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Can you post an image of what you have so far? or better yet, attach our *.sldprt file here. If your instructor saw your concepts then surely they believe you have received adequate instruction to complete the project. Quote
adam2706 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 Here are a few pics of what I have so far. It is a very basic form, Im just trying to get the shape right. Quote
adam2706 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 and it is not letting me upload the part file as an attachment. Is there a different way to do it? Quote
JD Mather Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Roll up all the features in the browser so that there is nothing displayed in the graphics window. Save the file with the feature tree in this rolled up state (it will now be much smaller). Right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. Attach the resulting *.zip file here. Quote
adam2706 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 it still isnt letting me, the file is too big still its 1.7 mb Quote
