Hi and thank you very much for taking your time to read this,

Im a very new member to cad tutor and also a newbie to autocad to.

currently Im working as a assistant quantity surveyor in a road project of 190km in length. Now, my bosses want us to take off all the cross section quantities and prepare total for each items such as excavation, sub-base, ABC, Binder...etc...

currently our draught persons use Autocad 2010 for cross sections and Civil3D 2012 for profile things. in a cross section drawing, there is a quantity box included, here I attach a cross section drawing file and if you kind enough to take a look at it quantities are there in the upper left corner.

What I want do is to copy these texts into excel 2010 so we can use formulas. as for that, I searched lot here and in google and found txt2xls.lisp, txt2xls.vlx dwg2xls.lsp and some VBA codes but none of them working. I can assure I followed instructions clearly but lisp doesn't seems to be recognizing texts. So please guys, can you suggest me a way of copying these text from autocad 2010 to excel 2010? so there would be lot of time and effort saved rather than entering each cross section by hand :(

and furthermore, I am looking for a software that could automate quantity take off for these cross sectional drawings or building drawings? I found names like carlson take off and autodesk take off. are these really working? what I want is to load these cross sections drawn in autocad to take off software and automate the procedure. So if you guys have used or heard please suggest me the best...

Thank you very much for your valuable time.

CIVIL3D makes all these things [quantities,..], but are little complex, powerfull, seems a CADExcel... I recomend you start learning C3D to work with linear-jobs [roads/rails/surfaces/grading...]

Thank you aari, Im trying to follow up these, But right now our bosses don't give us much time and we have already started entering these into excel manually...and I had a little success getting these text into excel using office "one note" but yet its time consuming as it only paste text into one cell and so we need to move them accordingly. can you suggest me a way of copying cad text into excel or any where as texr but picture. thank you very much for your time and I really appreciate. thank you

eattext

? export into Excel [just get the objects & properties you need] then work in Excel

Thank you AARI and SLW210...

About Eattext - I have tried this before and unfortunantly its not what Im trying to achieve. Eattext or the data extraction does take out text but all the values are in a single row. if you would just take a look at my drawing I attached here please U would see that there is a quantity table in the upper left hand corner in each cage. those are in three column table(not a autocad table. It was drawn as a table) in a three columns for item name and quantities for LHS and RHS. what Im trying to achieve is take out these values in three columns as they appear here in the drawing. to be more specific, I need them to be in three excel columns and just as they appear here in the drawing. or at least in one excel column but quantities and item name should be in line(row in excel) with each other.

Cadtools - Thank you very very much this tip SLW210. Its a great utility and beside from this copying to excel thing, seems its gonna be a regular tool for me.

so, back into the copying problem, I tried this and it pretty much does the work but with little flows like if I selected the whole cage at once by dragging, it seems to jumble up where the content text appears. I need to carefully select each one by one to get them in order but not in line. they appear one by one to down side. as I described above, It would be very greatful if there was a method to copy them as they appear. and thank you very much again for this grat tool, Im going to put it into this purpose right now.

So if u guys think what im trying to achieve is possible, can u suggest me any other way of achieving this?

Dear Sir,

I have already worked as a Quantity Surveyor/Assistant Quantity Surveyor at Highway Project. during 8 years 6 months. Taking all Earth works Quantities (Area Quantities) of Cross Section Drawings.

with Volume calculation for Interim Payment Applications. So with my knowledge & experience I think I can handle the entire job well & also I feel I have good prospects at any company.

Thank you,

I don't understand this. I see it occur all the time on LinkedIn where one person says they are seeking to find a job then a dozen random people reply saying they are eligible and would like the job. Is it a language barrier or something else?

Additionally, in-case most people were not aware, many modern civil engineering design programs can take off all the quantities automatically and more accurately.
