Area measurement (Version Conflict)

Dear All,

I have Auto CAD Version 2010, 2012 in my PC and while calculating area when i calculate area in 2012 version it gives me 4877.92 and in 2010 version of Auto CAD it gives 4935.52. I want to know if anybody have the solution for that why this happening. why the 2012 version shows the less area for the same drawings ?

NOte: The area of 2010 Version is correct.

Thanks in advance

How are you defining the area? Are you picking points?

I haven't seen an evidence to suggest that area calculations vary from version to version.

I did test your theory but I am happy to report that at least in my case the test, from your point of view, failed.

I started a new drawing, using AutoCAD 2013, and created a rectangle that approximated the area you mentioned that was good (4877.92). I saved this in 2007 file format then proceeded to open the drawing in AutoCAD 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2007 each time running the Area command using the Object option. Each time the area reported back was the same 4877.92 and no matter how hard I tried I could not get any version of AutoCAD to give me a different number.

I think in your situation it was a case of O.I.E. (Operator Induced Error). Sorry.

Sorry but our IT department blocks that website. How about a synopsis?

Perhaps the OP needs to install the service pack(s) for 2012?

It is just an introductory site that points to an Autocad Hotfix

A new hotfix is now available for AutoCAD 2011 that targets some area measurements results when using complex PLINES.

There are a few other vague references here and there on the web, it is a known issue but how would you know unless you do a comparison, and I certainly don't check things like that between versions.:) And yes apparently SP1 for 2012 does fix it as well.

I am defining area with list command by selecting whole object.

Did you read steven-g's last post?

I tried your approach (using the List command) in all four versions of AutoCAD I previously mentioned. The result was unanimous (4877.92) across the board.
