welshdpm Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Hi All I am currently trying (trying being the operative word!!!!), to create a block of a cill, which I can rotate to separate angles. Problem I have is getting the internal lines to join each other. I have tried so many different ways to get them to meet, but seriously struggling. I can't seem to find anything referring to extending lines or trimming lines in a Dynamic Block. Can anyone help me.... Corner Sub Cill.dwg Quote
dbroada Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I think you need to look in to using geometric constraints within yur block. I managed to add some to your block and had the left part fixed and the "hinged" bit staying attached. The problem I had was that the geometry stayed attached but the distance between parallel lines changed. When you have read the instructions and got it working, come back here and explain - I REALLY am trying to come to terms with geometric constraints but the knowledge never quite stays in. Quote
welshdpm Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Can you attach the file, I can have a look, and see if I can add anything else. I have tried the geometry constraints. Like you I seam to get a partial fix, but the lines move. If I anchor them, the lines don't intersect properly. Shame ACAD can't add a few more constraints into the parameters box..... Quote
dbroada Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 sorry, I got so frustrated I exited without saving! I am sure its a matter of find the magic icon that will work here, but I can't see it at the moment. I'll give it another try in a while. Quote
dbroada Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 OK, not entirely correct but this is as good as I got it. I have dimensionally constrained everything vertically on the left and contrained the base. I have made lots of things equal to each other and various other things blindly as I went. Hope its of some use to you. Sub Cill Corner.dwg If I've sent your one back, ooops, let me know and I'll try again tomorrow. Quote
welshdpm Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 I finally have it doing what I want, and it took a lot of constraints to do it. Now for the second phase of the block is to produce stretches, for different size cills. I need to be able to stretch certain areas by a nominal size as the cill can be upto 500 wide. See sketch attached. I have tried it with a Polar Stretch, and it doesn't seem to work. Only other thing I can try it a linear stretch. But not sure if it will move the fixed anchors. welshdpm Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Sorry the drawing I have just uploaded has bombed out to original block. I'll revise and re-upload. Can you save your drawing to ACAD 2012, it wont open and show the block only a lines as if it was never a block. Regards Dave Quote
welshdpm Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Please see attached Corner Sub Cill WIP2.dwg Quote
dbroada Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 When I was trying to add constraints and made lots equal I did wonder what you would do if you needed to stretch something. Refering to your pdf, do you need seperate stretches on both horizontal and vertical parts or does one always equal the other? If they are always equal you should be able to just have a dimensional constraint on one part. Quote
welshdpm Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 I wish is was that easy, unfortunately one leg could be a different size to the return. Nightmare this one!!!! Quote
steven-g Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) Hi does this work as expected, I can't do much with constraints, but I did delete a few, so I hope it doesn't muck anything else up. Edit ---- Checked it again and needed to delete the fixed point constraint on the bottom leg in order to let it stretch---- Corner Sub Cill WIP2.dwg Edited June 6, 2013 by steven-g Quote
