Problem: file overwritten

Greetings.

Now the problem is: I opened autocad and loaded another .dwg file. So there were two files running. One was drawing1.dwg and the other was my file i was working on. I was in a hurry so I wanted to close the program fast. I pressed x on the upper right corner to close the program. It prompted whether to save or not and i choosed save and then it asked if to save drawing 1 or not and i accidentally choosed to save it over my file. So now I lost all my work. I really need it back. Is there a way to restore the file's previous state or recover or anything to do? I am using autocad 2009. Thanks in advance.

providing you only saved once there should be a .bak file in the same folder. Use explorer to change the extension to .dwg and all should be OK.

+1, just rename the file and change the extension to .dwg

AutoCAD should always create a .bak file when you open a drawing, edit it and then save it...

.bak files are backups to the original drawing pre-modification.... very handy.

I'm no AutoCAD expert yet, (just learning) but I do know computers and unless you have a backup of that file from before you saved it, I'm afraid you've lost your data. Valuable lesson learnt though if not, you won't do it again.

look for "drawing2" if you didn't have the file you were working on named something specific. Can't have 2 drawings with the same name (open at the same time) also try going to the first pull down called "file and look at the last couple of drawings you had open and you should be ok...

check your .bak files on same folder where said file is saved,,, they may still be saved at their previous state. if its already overwritten i think its lost forever. id also suggest locating the .sv$ but it saves on a time cycle more recent than the bak file so it may not work, but it may be worth the look. its on Documents and Settings>(your username)>Local Settings>Temp.

GoodLuck
