XREF Model Space not showing up in viewports

I have a model space with a few XREF drawings. I have a layout with a viewport of these drawings. All seemed fine until I imported another drawing using XREF. I went to adjust this viewport and it is not showing the new drawing that has been imported into model space (I can see the three drawings that were there but the new one will not appear) to you have to like "reload" a viewport or something? (From my understanding viewports alwasys stay current with model space)

Make sure the XREF is on the proper layer and that layer is on and thawed for that viewport.

Thanks for the Reply Rob. So I just added an XREF drawing to model space got it to work..honestly I couldnt tell you what I did. Then I added another XREF drawing in model space went back into "Layout 1" viewport and the newly added drawing does not appear in the viewport?? In the discussion of the Layers I have it the layer manager set to filter out any XREF layers because I am not permitted access to make changes to them. But in theory if there on in model space would they not be on in the viewport.

You should have access to all your layers so you can verify that they are indeed on and thawed for the viewport. And yes they can be on in model space and off or frozen in a viewport. It is a different setting.

If the objects are appearing in model space, then if I have not made any adjustments to a viewport shouldn't they appear in that viewport as well being that the layers from the referenced file are on since it is appearing in model space. As well could this have something to do with some of my "Layouts" are copied and then renamed? Meaning I guess that the viewport would be a copied file of the first layouts viewport.

The only way I could answer that is to have the file and know your actual work flow.

I dont know why but this seems to work maybe you might have some insight..........So I have drawing "A" which is a XREF drawing in model space. I have a viewport in "Layout 1" which shows "A". I then add another XREF drawing say called "B" into model space. I go to my viewport in "Layout 1" and try adjusting it to show "B" but "B" does not show up in the viewport. So I save and close the file. I reopen the file, click on the viewport in "Layout 1" and now drawing "B" does appear. This seems to work but why must I have to save and close for the drawing to appear in the viewport?

You shouldn't have to. Did you try a regen (RE on the command line) before closing?

Maybe they are only attached and not yet loaded. Xrefs auto load on opening so that will fix it for you, but to avoid having to close and re-open, find the xref in the Insert dropdown list, right click, choose Load or Reload. You also need to do this when one of the xrefs has been changed while your drawing is open.
