danielk Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 im trying to create a surface from text. those text object has XYZ. after creating a surface name > choosing from object>text. autocad says 394 found but it doesn't create a surface , where do i go next and where can i see the data? Thanks Quote
Dadgad Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 What are you trying to do with them, is this for CNC maybe? You might want to look at the EXPRESS TOOL called EXPLODE TEXT, the command alias is TXTEXP. I hope that you have that command in 2011, I forget when it was added to EXPRESS TOOLS. After you TXTEXP them, you will be left with 2D polylines, which you can then EXTRUDE, as shown in the screenshot. Quote
danielk Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 No , im trying to create a terrain (topography ) its one of the option in CIVIL3D not autocad 3d Quote
MSasu Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I believe that more probably the OP is looking to create the surface of a terrain described by some elevation markers, that it, those TEXT items (the tread is posted in Civil 3D & LDD sub-forum). What are those X, Y, Z that you were talking by? Are the TEXT entities insertion point’s coordinates or the actual value of the label? Quote
danielk Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 see the file topo for agriculture planing.dwg Quote
Tyke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Are using vanilla AutoCAD or Civil 3D? Your data has blocks with the name "CROSS" and these blocks can be added to the DTM as drawing objects. Quote
danielk Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 civil 3d. yes i know i tried this with those blocks , i choose the blocks from toolspace> surfaces> my surface name>definition>drawing object> add > object type=blocks. i selected the blocks and i get "393 object found" , but i don't see a autocad creating the surfaces . whats next , where do i see all the info autocad collected and how to create the surface? Thanks Quote
Tyke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 You need to set up a surface style so that you can see the contours and triangles, don't edit the Standard style make a copy of it and edit that. You have 393 block references in your drawing but they are split into groups, I would suggest creating a surface for each group. Which version of Civil 3D are you using? Quote
Tyke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Have a look at this version of your drawing and see if it is what you want. _B_topo for agriculture planing.dwg Quote
danielk Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 sort of .. i need to see more lines and less triangulation. i tried to define surface styles and still couldnt see the surface im trying to create , what do i miss? Quote
Tyke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Turn your Visual Style to "Conceptual" for a better view. Quote
Organic Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 sort of .. i need to see more lines and less triangulation. i tried to define surface styles and still couldnt see the surface im trying to create , what do i miss? What do you mean by "more lines"? As in you want a smaller contour interval? If so, go to the Surface definition, right click and edit the surface style and change the contour interval. On the display tab of the edit surface style panel you can turn off the triangulation. Quote
Tyke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 sort of .. i need to see more lines and less triangulation. i tried to define surface styles and still couldnt see the surface im trying to create , what do i miss? Go to the Help tab in C3D 2014 and in the "Learn AutoCAD Civil 3D" panel click the "Tutorials" button. Under "Surfaces Tutorials" check out the tutorial on "Changing the Surface Style and Display". In the Surface Style you can set your contour intervals. Click on your surface and in the Properties Palette make sure your surface has the style you want and not standard. Quote
Tyke Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 From the codes shown in your drawing it looks like you have some roads and buildings in there, so you might consider adding breaklines on their boundaries. Quote
danielk Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 o.k. i got it , i messed with the surface styles and i see its working now , as you see i have couple of point groups and when i creat a surface to another group it automatically connect the group to other , i tried to create a boundary with polyline and but no success .
